What did you do in the garden today?

@BReeder! garden sounds fabulous! What's the 3 jars in the middle, looks like chicken soup maybe?

My Purple Cherokee are really large too... Easily over a lb apiece. I don't know if they also make a Purple Cherokee that is a cherry tomato size or not....

I picked a bunch of cherry tomatoes today, along with some banana peppers and jalapeño. I pickled last year's sweet banana peppers and no one ate them. DH said he preferred hot so I planted hot banana peppers this year. Now he says he doesn't really want them.... 🙄 No idea what to do with them now but I'm getting bushels of them. Same with the jalapeños and Anaheim peppers.
Will anyone eat a hot sauce? That's what I do with all of mine. You can even tame it down with pineapple or mango if you need. I have a good website I use if you'd like me to link it for you, it has TONS of recipes & just as many ways to make it from just chopping it all up, to roasting it or even fermenting or canning if you want. But it can be simple if you prefer.

Neighbor texted last night, the coyote was wandering the neighborhood. He can't get my chickens though, I much prefer him over the bears.

We are on track for the wettest July ever. I'm not sure my squash plants are going to make it. I have more cucumbers than I have any idea what to do with, at least squash I can freeze or make things with, cukes not so much! Anyone have any ideas? I've made bread before & it was good, just like squash bread.

I pruned the heck out of the cuke plants, they're blocking all the light to the tomatoes. I also pruned all the bottom leaves off the maters hoping to get them some sun to ripen, if the sun ever comes out again. I did find what I think was a leaf footed bug nymph on the cukes, but it was faster than me. :smack

Braided the rest of the softneck garlic. Hardneck is still curing, as are the shallots. I was hoping for some small shallot bulbs to replant but they're all HUGE! @NewBoots are you saving any of your shallots to replant - I know you have the giant kind too.

my husband was ready to smash and burn pile these chairs and table. I thightened the screws and painted them instead, I think it looks nice.

You did a very nice job. Congrats on the save.

I am interested in recipes.

I chop cucumbers for my chickens. they love it. with this heat I yesterday had 6 eggs from 8 hens. I wonder if veggies help them lay in summer.

Yes! I do give the girls the cukes that I find are getting soft in the bottom of the crisper drawer - they do love them. When it's hot out I make sure to throw them in the freezer for a few minutes to get them nice & cold.

Ocular migraine complete with psychedelic color zigzag earlier gave way to a regular motion activated migraine. Cause unknown. Thought I was going suddenly blind at first, which was scary as heck.

Sorry to hear about your migraine. Hope you are getting some help. I have some relatives that suffer from migraines and it can knock them out for the entire day. Runs in their family, I guess.

When I have had a surplus of cucumbers, Dear Wife will slice them up thin and make some kind of salad out of them. I think she fills up a bowl and presses the sliced cucumbers with a weight on a plate. I think she leaves it sit in the fridge overnight. Then she mixes up some miracle whip, sliced onions, maybe some vinegar, salt and pepper, and lets it sit for another day in the fridge. The cucumber slices soften up and absorb the white sauce. Anyway, you serve it as a salad along with your main meal. Since it is all cucumbers, you can use them up faster that way. Sorry I can't be more specific on how she makes the cucumber salad, but the most I help is to take out my food slicer and slice the cucumbers and onions up for her to save her some time.

@Elyrian1 - yes I meant to say sorry for the awful migraine. I do get auras frequently, but thankfully they don't go any further. I had ONE migraine my entire life & it was the worst pain. No noise, no light for 2 days - I never want to go thru that again so I always feel for people who do get them. :hugs

Thanks for that - my friends mom used to make a salad like that but with sour cream & I always loved it but had forgotten about it! I'll be making it today.

I need to water more parts of the garden today. Some weeding needs to happen soon too.

I'm not sure which beans I picked yesterday. They are not purple, or Dragon Tongue. A green bush bean, and way earlier than the those two.

@BReeder! :bow color me totally impressed!

I'm not sure what's going on with my Cherokee Purple tomatoes. They are nowhere near any kind of size for canning. I have two that are turning color, so I'll pick them when they're ripe and see how they taste. If they're really tasty, I'll plant a couple next year, with the plan that they are cherry tomatoes, not canning size. I am bummed, but way worse things have happened.

I dug one potato plant 2 weeks ago, and had tiny taters. I think I'll try my best to wait another two weeks before I dig another one.

Anyone planning a fall garden? If so, what are you planting?
We should collaborate on this. Same zone, same horrible spiky weed vines..... I'm thinking of rotating some things in my straw bales. I just pulled out 2 squash plants that basically fell apart crom the squash bugs. Gotta figure out what to do in that empty space very soon.
