What did you do in the garden today?

I just might.... Although I've been wanting to take a trip to Ardmoor (I think...) as that's where Leon's place is. He runs a gardening channel on YouTube called 'Gardening with Leon.' This guy is incredible.... I'd love to meet him before he's gone.
Ardmore is South of me on the way to Dallas. It looks like he is in Kingston which is about 40 minutes southeast from Ardmore. Pretty close to Lake Texoma

Let me know when you're coming, and I'll meet you there. Looks like a 2 hour trip for me, but more like 5 for you. He must be really good. I'll have to start watching those videos.

Good morning gardeners. Looking forward to a hot but relatively dry day today. We did get some overnight showers but the sun actually came out this morning. Yesterday was busy but did get necessary chores finished. I tried to hand pollinate some of the summer squash but the flowers were full of water. There was one determined honey bee trying his darnedest to pollinate the flowers. There is one zucchini that somehow managed to get pollinated as it will be ready to pick in another day or two. There are more summer squash that might make it, :fl Today I picked a few potatoes to go with dinner tonight. They really need more time so I'll abstain from picking again for at least another week or two. I was contemplating pulling the kale and chard today so I could prep the bed for the Fall garden, but after picking the most mature leaves there were still quite a few baby leaves developing. I may just wait a bit longer and do two beds under cover to extend the growing season. My cucumbers are starting to look a bit more healthy. I really would like to get enough to make my own pickles this year. I planted the sunflowers in the ground yesterday, finally. My last pot of basil was planted with the bell peppers this morning. I haven't made a big batch of pesto in a few years so I thought I would do that this year. I just need to remember to pick that basil. I wholeheartedly endorse the cucumber bread for using excess cucumbers. I made this on the advice of @ Sueby a couple of years back when I had a surplus. Good stuff. There's also cucumber soup that can be served hot or cold. Then there's always gazpacho which can transform an overload of tomatoes and other vegetables into a fresh, no cook soup. I also bought a juicer that year I had an overload of produce. Fresh juice is great and oh so healthy. Just a thought.

My dutch red shallots grew stupid crazy too. It's like the bulbs grew their own littler bulbs, it was just wow. I got them curing, gave a LOT away, still got tons left. I think I am going to do a mass pan cook here. Do them with some garlic, some spices, sautee the heck out of them just like Id love to eat them with ANY other food, then freeze dry them in more manageable portions. That way they are good, 1 month, 1 year, 10 years later, when I want some, I grab a packet, add water, or just throw into whatever Im cooking and poof, instant heaven!!

Ill keep a big bouquet of them for planting later this year, probably Novemberish for harvest again, next june or so.

Thanks for that - my friends mom used to make a salad like that but with sour cream & I always loved it but had forgotten about it! I'll be making it today.

I think you are right, it must be sour cream and not miracle whip. But like I said, Dear Wife makes that cucumber salad. All I do is show my appreciation by eating it up. It is a good way to use up excess cucumbers. Hope you enjoy the salad if you make it.

I picked up an almost new juicer from our local thrift store. It works perfectly fine, but after using it a couple times, I lost interest in it. Maybe I just prefer to eat the whole vegetable instead of just getting the juice. I thought it was a lot of cleanup work to get just a little bit of juice and mostly pulp that I would throw out to the chickens. I still have that juicer stored in a closet, and I hope someday to find a use for it.

Harvested some more delicious potatoes, mowed the orchard area and enjoy the charming evening with hubby.

Anyone planning a fall garden? If so, what are you planting?
Already started cabbage, broccoli, kohlrabi, beets and the last round of corn. Probably will do peas, green beans, maybe limas later.
(Sugar Rush Peach chile peppers) sound like something DH would love! LMK what you think of them.
Too hot for snacking. Great in egg salad. They need to get very peachy colored to be sweet.
