What did you do in the garden today?

... No goats here. My boys are too proud of their trucks and my husband's Japanese sportscar. Plus my son probably remembers our intact nubian boys trying to mount him when he was younger.
  Children need to be protected from farm animals. Even adults need to be careful. I watched a YouTube video where some "homesteading" guy was attacked by his boar hog and it nearly killed him. They butchered the hog while the husband was in the hospital recovering.

I made the cucumber sour cream salad last night, we both loved it & the sauce was good dipping for the chicken. That will be a new staple. I may make some cucumber bread too, it freezes well.

Yep, I really like the cucumber sour cream salad. Good idea for dipping chicken. Dear Wife will make zucchini bread if/when we get so many zukes that we cannot keep up with eating them in normal soups and stir fry. The zucchini bread freezes well and will last for months. Never heard of cucumber bread. Might have to look into that if we have an excess.

A note on gloves. I can't handle raw meat, it messes with my head and stomach too much. So I go to home depot, down to the paint aisle, and find THE box of food service/prep gloves. It's a monster box, lasts me for months. Probably should tuck one extra in storage before cold and flu season sets in properly. Pardon my messy kitchen, we live here. ;) way cheaper this way.

I watched that homesteader. In short, never turn your back on a hog. Gotta give him props for being calm in the 911 call though. Guess being former military (army I think?) served him well.

I feel the same way about raw meat. Good to know there are kindred souls out there! Thanks for the info about finding vinyl gloves. I usually buy on line but the prices have doubled over the last year or so.
:)

Yes gloves can be a god sent, BUT if you are working in the garden, you might want to consider the leather gloves anyways. gas and oil, no you are correct, you'd ruin the leather but if you are pulling sticker weeds or other nasties, having the leather to be a barrier between you and that, can help a ton. also AGREED, buy a box of them, they can be washed / reused on occasion and come in very handy. As chicken owners, sometimes we may need to check... 'things'.... where having a glove on is a good thing !!

I use both... My leather gloves are missing. Pretty sure DH stole them and they are buried somewhere in his shop. So I bought some new ones from Lowe's but they are a red/black/white leather mix. I broke them in one day recently when it was God awful humid outside. They turned my fingers black and pink. So I've been wearing nylon gloves inside the leather gloves. 🙄

Basically the same recipe as zucc bread - but with cucumber instead! Sounds weird but you'd never know it when eating it. I talked @Wee Farmer Sarah into trying it last year & she liked it too.
