What did you do in the garden today?

Oooh! That does sound good! This was to have Cherry/orange infused bourbon for drinks, like an old fashioned (simple) or add to other more complex drinks. I actually like the old fashioned drink bc I like the cherry/orange combo. But recipe does say to strain out the cherries and orange peel - so could certainly use the cherries for ice cream topping.

I made another drink syrup with some of the sour cherries. That was sour cherries, muscat wine, sugar, salt, lemon juice…cook, the remove cherries and reduce syrup. That one is amazing in a gin/seltzer drink (with the right gin, of course).
I believe I need to move in with you. 🥃

After yesterday's fatal attack, I opted not to let the chickens out to free range today. They are not pleased.... 😂

I've neglected the garden the past few days and have focused on the new flower bed instead. I moved a lilac, peony, hibiscus, and some tuberose into it but never got around to mulching it because it was so hot. Needless to say, it now has thick grass that puts my yard to shame so I spent last night weeding HALF of it and putting down mulch. My peony looked in bad shape. Not sure if it can be saved.... 😕

Picking a little bit of everything in the garden this week including a couple eggplant. Not getting much done because I've had to take care of the extra quail roos this week. Need to pull weeds, fuss with the irrigation and chase a gopher.
For a while the quart glass jar of HEINZ ACV was real, made from apples, but the gallon plastic jug was colored and flavored, as were store brands.
Guess I'm not missing much being lazy and using white vinegar for everything. That's disappointing.
Sour cherries, and bourbon ALL OVER everything...Drips, spray, leaking, covering inside fridge, all over floor, under fridge, in the freezer, all over clothes waist and below, not to mention soaked socks.
What a mess! I have had one kombucha bottle explode in the fridge.. that was fun to clean. At least it was a neutral color.

The scene at the beginning: Home kitchen, clean. residents going about their morning. In the fridge is a jar of sour Michigan cherries and some orange peel mixed with Medium quality Bourbon whiskey in an Amber Quart jar with lid. Jar needs a gentle shake once per day for 4 days to meld flavors.

What happened: Jar failure - bottom third cracked completely off, just as being put back on the top shelf in the fridge. Sour cherries, and bourbon ALL OVER everything...Drips, spray, leaking, covering inside fridge, all over floor, under fridge, in the freezer, all over clothes waist and below, not to mention soaked socks.

The Scene Now: shades of pink to red. Interior of fridge not completely cleaned yet. floor mopped with cleaner, but needs more. Puddles can be seen under the fridge.

Oh, the Humanities!!!!

I took DS to the dentist this afternoon and we stopped at Lowes on the way home to see if they still had any apple or pear trees. The had one apple tree. It was a Granny Smith, which I like. It was in poor shape though. I took the risk anyway figuring I could return it within a year if it dies. At the register, the cashier gave me half off because it looked like it was dying. Ended up paying $20 for it. I'm hopeful because there's some new growth that looks healthy. We planted it right away when we got home. I had to stake it because it is a bit wobbly right now.

toss some 10-10-10 on it if you have it and get those roots going. Can use it every 3 weeks with regular watering
