I got my garlic planted today. Only three heads, but it was about 36 of them. It was hot today, and very windy.

We bought about 15 canes or raspberry from gentleman that his property had been sold...
We have about 15 possibly more as we where leaqving his garden he reached down pulled 3 bunches of walking onions

still rain - sunshine - rain... here. I am trying to finish my coops and runs so that no chicken can escape. after that I'll be able to deal with my garden. hopefully soil will be soaked with rain and soft by then - sweet dreams here I'll have to water first as usual.

Cukes…a figment of my garden imagination. We have TERRIBLE luck with them. The cucumber beetles must carry some potent form of virus…we have tried numerous varieties. This past spring, when my seeds grew then wilted, I bought some starts from the store..in less than a week they wilted. And cukes (or similar) have never grown in that raised bed!!

Do you know for sure it's because of the beetles and not something in your soil? You could try replacing the soil in that area, and/or covering the seedlings with row covers.

I know, right? I'm definitely slacking on pictures - I've been meaning to take some to text to my friend who gave me the chicken family, so she can see they are happy and healthy.

DP is having a small procedure at the hospital today so I'm waiting for the call to come pick her up. I miss the days when you could stay with someone just about till they entered the operating room. She couldn't eat at all yesterday or drink water after midnight last night so I promised her all kinds of good things once she's home again.

I'm glad DP is recovering well, and expect you are spoiling her! My best wishes for health and happiness to you both.

I paid $4 for a jk 72 pack seedling tray which they say the 'before' price was $20. WHO WOULD PAY THAT?!?!?

That's crazy, but I think I've seen them for close to that at our local higher-end stores, early in the season. You got a good deal for $4, thankfully.

Need to

LOL, none of us gardeners ever seem to run out of "need to" chores! As I was doing a "need to" chore that involved sorting through a pile of paperwork, I ran across a to-do list I made for last Spring, and only about half the things have been done even now.

We built deck and hubby made me a cute end table out of drop. He thinks it's silly but I told him he could sell them! Ha ha I just noticed our dog in the pic! All 10 pounds of him ha ha

That table is super cute! And it looks sturdy - people around here would buy them, just make sure sweet doggo appears in the marketing pics.

Eggplant - flowers

One of mine is like that. The others I've picked clean and they look old and dried out, but the last one apparently thinks Spring is coming ?

I love the look of eggplants and the flowers are really pretty but I've just never eaten them other than in baba ghanoush (which I do like) and so haven't ever cooked with it.

I'm a big fan of eggplant, but Mr. Dog is not - at least he claims not to be, because I hide it in various things. Eggplant slices are really good in lasagne, for example. I used to make ratatouille (which I love) but Mr. Dog would not eat it until I added pork and called it stew, or put it through the food processor and called it tomato sauce.

@littledog How funny! I also ran across a need to list I had made months ago when we first moved here. I found it yesterday. While about half the things have gotten done, the other half could be deleted because we changed our gameplan.

I need to get y'all pics of the garden beds dh is building for me. They're pretty awesome, and other than some nails and some plastic liner they're free so far. I told him once he gets me another two or three sections I can plant winter greens

Different beds, in different garden areas over 3 years. I’ve tried many varieties too. So far, the best we get are just a few before vines succumb. Some last longer than others, but it’s usually the ones that flower a bit later.

I’ll try next year, again, a different bed with different soil

I'd list the "need to"s here but the list is too long and embarrassing.

Shopping day today, then I WILL (gotta, the bones are thawing in the sink) put some bones in the oven to brown a bit then make a big pot of stock. I'm not freezing it anymore just canning, the frozen just takes up too much freezer space. I'll have to use the big pressure canner to do quarts and that's never fun. I now know why people often make outside canning places. And next is more crushed tomato canning, well that and the green tomato relish. I'll get more canning jars at the store(s) today, they seem to be easier to find again.
