What did you do in the garden today?

My taste in breads was always that of spoiled 7 year old, plain bland white bread. But I've finally grown to really like a seedy, oaty, brown bread. I've been buying from a local bakery outlet store when in town, and DP recently decided to start making seedy type breads and I can't wait!

It's sunny but cold this morning and I need to go out and see to Amelia (bo) who has a poopy butt this morning. Given how cold it is I'm going to try to wash off as much as I can and trim only as necessary. She's been a great layer of huge eggs and one of the top 2 or 3 in rank, so I'm hoping she hasn't developed a serious problem. I'll need to dig out a hair dryer so I can refluff her fluffy butt.

Well I finally got my garlic planted, 3 totes worth and a bunch of left overs, I got sample packs of all different species, so lets hope it does better this year than last time I tried, but I learned from my mistakes (we hope).
I also added irrigation to it, I do this with pretty much all my plants, I plant them in IBC totes and pipe them up to put the water where I need it. I use other totes to store the water and while I can gravity water most my stuff, it's a lot more efficient to use a small pump to put the water right where I need it, when I need it, how much I need.

Now to wait for it to be ready sometime next summer.

Well I guess I'll lose Amelia, I cleaned her up and trimmed all the feathers from around her cloaca but she has a partial prolapse. :( Once she was clean I gently pushed it back inside but it was out again within an hour. Someone has been laying giant eggs with blood on them and I'm betting it's been her and her reproductive bits are messed up. She acts normal and even put another hen in her place when I returned her to the run but if she starts showing distress I'll have to put an end to it. There are some other hens that I've been needing to cull so I'll probably do them all at once. Bummer, I really like Amelia. :(

I find all Jalepeno's are weak in the store. I think it's a legal thing, some powder puff bites into a hot one and the lawyer gets a phone call, aww my tummy hurts so im suring...so they nerf everything. Farmers markets you can find decent stuff IF they grow it locally. Or grow them yourself.

At one time I had like 25 different peppers growing in pots, i moved, I don't want to say past that, but laterally??? I grow all kinds of stuff now, just not all peppers anymore. My problem is I want to do all this stuff. but each new hobby, or hell, even .. different plant now, takes the most precious thing a person has... time. Before you know it, the day is gone, you been bustin your butt all day and can't point to one thing or another that is COMPLETE and say, yah, I did that today. Oh I did a little of this, little of that. started this, twiddled that, fixed this .. you always find time to start NEW crap, never FINISH old crap... the curse of the elderly. Gardening is the worse, that HAS to be hell,.. oh you want redemption, sure noooOOOOproblem, when ALL of the gardening work is done... you can go !!! .... Hah !!! Little do we know.

Its fun though and in some odd way, even though Im sore as hell and know I will literally have to crawl down the stairs in the morning, the satisfaction of knowing you did a bunch of stuff, or have a whole table of stuff that needs canning, cooking, freeze drying, and having the bird yelling at you because HE wants some too... is a good feeling. It lets you know you are still alive.

I find that peppers grown with hydrolyzed fish pack a PUNCH. Plus lots of sugars.

I’m sorry NB, it’s always tough to loose one :hugs

Good afternoon gardeners. The oldest grandson asked if he could move the compost pile today and he did the whole thing! He said he found it satisfying.

The area where the pile used to be gets a lot of shade in winter so hopefully the move will help it break down faster. There is some dirt I’m going to move still and still some mulch to move but we also have some bare patches where I’ve been monied pools that need a few shovels full tossed on so there’s a plan for it. I’ve decided to leave the lattice up so I still have a walkway, and I’m planning to add some shrubs for cover in that space. I’d like to try some xeriscape grass in there somehow, but no ideas yet.
