What did you do in the garden today?

So it turns out we got down to 14F last night. No wonder the hose froze. I have not checked my plants today. I was too afraid to look...

Max is about 5 years old and appears to be a Cairn Terrier / Shih Tzu mix. The poor little guy is suffering a broken heart trying to understand why his family ditched him. He is friendly and quiet and apparently likes to sleep late.

Grow Bags!! Might try some this year. But, where have you bought them? I know several people on here use them.

I am looking for grow bags to go along the east side of the extra chicken pen. Therefore I will plant those items that dont love heat there - maybe some turnips, for example (small salad ones), or maybe spinach or something else. They would get morning sun, maybe 6 hours of full sun, but not the intense afternoon hot sun. So I dont need very big ones.

I turned feed bags inside out. They worked pretty well as grow bags. I rolled the edges up and unrolled a bit if I was adding soil or compost (I was growing potatoes).

It's got me thinking about my tomato choices this year. I want one variety for sauce, one for slicing and one grape/cherry variety. Anybody have favorites they would like to share?

grow bags here cost about 5 eur. dirt to fill it would cost at least 20 eur. whatever I would grow in there would have value max 5 eur, probably less. so no, thanks.

Ruby Crush grape tomato from Territorial seed - it produced and produced and produced even more. It got fairly large, but not obnoxious. Nice tasting tomato too, everyone here loved them.

On the other hand, cannot recommend the currant tomato they sell (Candyland?) we did not like them at all…but the plant was attractive and on the small side, a lot of foliage that was tiny, and a lot of tomatoes. It is perhaps worth it for using as decorative in a pot on the deck, and you may like the tomato as a bonus.

We did grow both these tomatoes in pots on the deck (and in the garden. The Ruby Crush was in a very large pot and quite happy. The Candyland was relegated to a much smaller pot and dried out more often, but never looked bad and kept producing.

Thanks. My bean seeds are dry now. Just want to store them until spring.

Sweet 100 for cherry. Pick, wrap a fresh basil leaf around it, pop in your mouth and enjoy.

Good morning all. Saw a very large red fox run by the woods behind my picket fence this morning. I went outside and yelled at him and he kept on running. Yay! Definitely not rabid. Closer this morning but supposed to be even colder tomorrow. I agree with the Sweet 100 Cherry Tomatoes. They are really good producers and they’re great in salads and for fresh pasta dishes. Max goes to the Vet this afternoon. He needs everything including neutering. He’s so much perkier now and is playing with his new toys.
