What did you do in the garden today?

Ok. I caved and bought some seeds from Burpee (flat seed fee for shipping). Then ordered some strawberries in a separate order.

The majority of my seeds will be heirloom. Purchased from Seed Savers, Sandhill Preservation, and Baker Creek. My ridiculous, years long battle with trying to produce some actual cucumbers has me seeking out the hybrids. I’ve tried numerous seed types and the heirloom ones just don’t work for me…so far, even hybrids aren’t really working out! So, I ordered 3 more, including the Chinese type someone in here mentioned as being resistant or something positive.

I will have WAY too many seeds, but many things have 3+ years seed life. Some things are short season/plant successively. Oh, and carrots…we will plant quite a variety…spouse wants lots of carrots!!

I do great with cucumbers, but have not been able to produce a decent carrot ever. I'm going to try them for the 3rd time this year. We will see... Last year I got one or two carrots to grow and fatten out but they were very short and looked more like a radish in their shape.

Afternoon all. Yesterday I got the hole dug for the apple tree, pulled yet more grass from the carrot patch, moved the corrugated pipe between the coop and wall for the buns to use as a tunnel, moved a shade structure out of that yard, and made Igor mad when he got home. So when he’s done helping me with what I need him for I’ll do my thing and he’ll likely never even notice. :smackJackass. I’m headed out to transplant the chaste tree and move them all to their new homes and do whatever out there, there’s plenty to get done. The squirmies got here today and the bin should arrive tomorrow. I need to run to the store for a newspaper or few and some peat moss too. Have a good night.

Evening all. Been busy catching up on work after being off for a week. Trying to catch up here too!

Yay @Wee Farmer Sarah - he's adorable!

Tomatoes - I only like to eat Bradywines, so that's what I grow. I also do Sungolds for cherries for DH & then if I'm canning I do San Marzano. I don't even need to buy Sungold starts, they just pop up all over the garden. DH thinks they're candy & I've never had a bad season with them.

@Acre4Me - I had pretty good luck with the Suyo Long cucumbers last year. I did get beetles when I went out to OR for my Uncles death - but they did great till then, & not too bad even after the bugs got out of hand. I will grow them again this year for sure.

I've decided I'm not starting any seeds early this year. It's just not worth it to me, it's easier & cheaper to buy starts. I don't have the room. Lettuce & green beans are the exception, they get direct sown.

Nothing happening in the garden, but I did seal the garden bench! Took it in the shop, let it dry, rough sanded & then sealed it. Hoping it helps.
