What did you do in the garden today?

Oh! I've been meaning to ask! Where does one get cheap/free pots for seed starting (and not Amazon)?
You can find them on ebay instead of Amazon.

Getting crafty is another option. Egg cartons, solo cups, toilet paper tubes, newspaper origami cups... all of these are options.

While I do but on Amazon, I also shop other sites and stores. I tend to prefer reusable starter trays to save money in the long run for less delicate plants. For more delicate plants I use starter trays made from recycled paper because I can plant the entire starter cell into the beds later.

But it also seems like a waste to start a bunch of plants if I only want 2 or 3 active plants of each variety. I can't bring myself to chuck out perfectly good plants and I would have no one to give the extras to...
Oh, I hear you! I seem to always get 10 of the ones I want 2 of, and 0 of the ones I want more of. Last year I ended up with a bunch of extra Sungolds, and set them out near the curb with a "free tomato plants" sign. Only two didn't get taken, and I took pity on them and found extra space in the garden for them.

I save containers from yogurt/sour cream/cottage cheese and drill holes in the bottom.

Everything is popping up in my little aerogarden. Super fast germination.

I'm not starting anything inside this year, I'll either buy starts (tomatoes, onions, cukes) or sow directly in the ground (for beans, lettuce, squash). I found it all too much work & expense to do inside - it was cheaper & easier to buy starts for my limited little garden. & I've found direct sowing works well, they catch up pretty quickly here. If my garden was bigger it would probably be a different story.

DH is going to kill me, I've decided I want another cattle panel for the garden. That means hooking up the trailer & heading into town - again. I should probably just get 2. :gig(this will be my 3rd trip for cattle panels, lol) I wonder if one on it's side would work for a trellis for squash. Yea, def getting 2 more.

Integration with the littles is going well. Chickens are mean, but the littles learn quick to stay away.

Yes, a cattle panel in its side works great for squash. I often use extra ties to support where the vine is growing a squash, but otherwise, they grow well on the cattle panels.

Last year I bought a bag of dixie cups. These worked out great for me and were reusable. If my seeds outgrow the toilet paper tube before I can put them in the garden, I will transplant them to the dixie cups.

I did this last year with my spaghetti squash. It was very helpful when trying to find squash bugs... 😊 Made it much easier to find them!
