What did you do in the garden today?

I bought 2 tiny loofa starts at the farmers market in August. Direct planted them right next to my Silkie coop. I had to take extra care to water them frequently since August is the hottest month of the year and the soil they were planted in is pretty rocky. Otherwise, no special treatment. No fertilizer or bug spray. Nada. To my surprise, they did generally pretty well. They only grew to the beginning of November because of an early cold snap. I still managed to get (3) GOOD 8" loofas off of the two plants. There were at least 3 or 4 others but they ended up rotting. I saved a ton of seeds so I'll try to start some new plants in a month or so. We'll see what an entire summer of growing brings this year.

We got at least 6-7" of snow today. A bit more expected tomorrow. I pulled out the snow blower twice, once before taking the kids shoveling and for hot chocolate and again when we got back. Of course the plow came by again after that second pass and threw a bunch of packed snow on the end of the driveway.
One of my neighbor's was out shoveling when I was snow blowing the first time. I let him use my blower when I was done. I would have just did it myself but I was trying to get the the shovels and kids loaded in my truck. Anyhow, my neighbor returned it while I was gone right where I asked him to put it and attached an envelope to the handle with $20 and a note that read "for gas money". I chuckled a bit and thought to myself, "how much gas does he think this thing uses?" It was very nice of him though. The $20 will fill a 5 gallon gas can that will take care of the rest of my snow blowing needs and last me into the summer mowing season. I gave his sidewalk and driveway a second pass when I did mine the second time. I figure he paid for the service at that point (although I do there's and another neighbor's driveway and sidewalk all the time without saying anything or taking payment).

It’s snowing! Not more than a couple inches so far. But they are expecting gusts up to 40 mph, several more inches snow today. Spouse has to go to work - it’s nearly an hour one way, so there is water, food, sleeping bag, extra hats and gloves, extra ice scraper/snow brush, and a container of deicer in the vehicle. That van is now missing its side door handle- this morning, while putting in supplies, slipped on ice while still holding onto the door handle… which stayed in their hand!

Morning. Warm & rainy here now but temps are supposed to plummet overnight & we will have a flash freeze & an icy mess.

I have a big beef roast in the crockpot for dinner & don't plan on leaving the house till Sat when I have our kitchen remodel appt at Home Depot. I get to pick out my cabinets & counter! :yesss:

Good morning gardeners. Just like @Sueby said, it's warm and raining here. Not a heavy rain, just a light shower. There's so much water on the ground from melting and the additional rain that there's big puddles of water all around with nowhere to go. There's a layer of ice under all that so it's super slippery too. Not much to do outside. I'm taking little Max shopping today at Pet Smart. I'm picking up another crate to have on hand. If nothing else it can always be used as a brooder. As for this latest storm, we shouldn't get hit too awfully bad. Getting the water to drain off somewhere seems the biggest problem right now. I'm in the zone that will get the rain, then sleet then ending with a few inches of snow. Then the temps will go back to sub zero lows for 2 days before the next warmup. I've been pricing dog wire fencing to expand the chicken yard and I'm happy the prices aren't all that bad right now. I also looked up some septic field friendly shrubs to put in there to help provide some shade and shelter for the chickens. I'm really excited for your kitchen remodel @Sueby. Best of luck with that. I still need to have the backsplash done and new flooring. That's on hold while I deal with all the vet bills that come with a "free dog." Has anyone used Jung's for ordering seed potatoes? The other items I have ordered from them in the past were pretty good. Best of luck to all of you in the worst of this most recent storm.

Crystal clear, sunny, breezy and -2, the windchill is -22'F, but despite is sounding horrible, it's not. 22 in the sunny chicken run. Chores were done in PJ pants, t-shirt, hat, mittens, and carhartt coat.
House is an overly warm 67, I'll knock it down to a more comfortable 65 here in a bit.
Another day spent inside working and planning for the 50 degree weather coming this weekend.
Might go to the charity shop, maybe repair some of the things in the sewing pile. I managed to get 10 more T-shirt bags done the other day. Such a quick and handy project. Maybe another trip to the charity shop today. Hardly anyone goes out when it's chilly, so it won't be busy.
