What did you do in the garden today?

I've had a busy day. I allowed the chicks to intermingle with the adults today. They still aren't SLEEPING in the main coop yet though. We'll start that process tomorrow night.

I also moved all my seed starts into bigger pots and moved them into a homemade outdoor greenhouse. In the next few days, the temperature is expected to drop down around freezing at night. I'm wondering if the starts will be OK out there since they are covered by thick plastic shower curtain liner so frost shouldn't be able to get to them?

I also started some flower seeds today... Some marigolds from the seeds I collected last year, some Paradiso echinacea, chamomile. I have some Butterfly Pea and Luffa seeds scarifying now. Will plant them tomorrow.

We saw the tornado out the window!! 😟
OMG I'm so glad you're alright!

We pickle them and use them in an awesome instant pot roast recipe. DH also puts them in sandwiches too.

I ought to just send you my extra seeds... 😊 I am only planting two plants because we have peppers coming out her ears.
If you really don't need and really have extra seed, I'd be so happy to have it. And maybe I'm being silly here, but I have to say I'd love to feel like we are neighbors, sharing our gardening. Let me know and I'll send you my address and no harm if you'd rather not.

I really don't need the extra seed and happy to share. Just message me your address and I'll mail them out on Monday. 😊

I left my seedlings outside. moved my 4 pekins (cochin bantams) to the coop that was meant for silkies. as I have got 5 ducklings (pekin) and 3 gooslings (toulouse cross) I will put them in that coop bc water is near. they are in the brooder and before they grow up I will make something for pekin chickens (will keep only a pair). I finally put all my silkies in the new coop and they will stay there. no more overnight house silkies. I hope they will roost. rats were the reason I didn't keep them outside at night.

not long ago I said no more ducks and geese before I move to my new place:lau

Good morning gardeners. Dawn hasn’t cracked yet but I got a few things watered and the coffee is steeping. Today I’ll finish watering, pull a few weeds in the grass and get that watered, and get some soil. I was supposed to get that yesterday but didn’t feel like going out. The water ran for the lemon tree for probably 48 hours at an extremely slow trickle and never made it out of my dam area on the low side so I’m making progress in that regard. Yesterday when I checked the Arabian lilac outside the wall the soil was still damp on the surface so making progress there as well. The oldest grandchild became a teenager! He has definitely had the attitude for a while, at least the last six months. Today I’m going to measure him, we do that every birthday and I mark it in the doorway to my closet. Time to pour coffee and get ready for the park, the dogs are already running around with balls in their faces telling me to hurry up. Have a great day everyone!

Have a wonderful day! The birds are singing sweetly and I’m about to get up and feed the chickens, too. Yesterday I scooped up the compost into three big bins to stop out loveable lab from scattering it everywhere and cleaned out the greenhouse. I started a few seeds but it looks like we’re going to get some chilly weather next week so I didn’t go mad. Coffee time!

Supposed to be windy today, followed by a lot of rain this evening/overnight. Yesterday, my teen and I put up heavy duty deer fencing (so it’s still thin) around the low fence yesterday. We attached it to the underside of the run roof, and it goes to the ground. It will keep chickens in the run, and wild birds out. We secured it a couple feet from the ground with long, thin boards. Hopefully the wind doesn’t damage it. We will get the other half done later.

Mystery: out birds are hardly laying. We have mixed ages, 12 females. We do have 3 males, but will get rid of one in a few weeks. No fighting we can see between the males, nor any overmating. One of the males is a slow to mature breed, and doesn’t seem to be causing any problems. Sure, we have had winters with few eggs, but usually get some from the youngest. But we’ve had a fairly sunny winter, young chickens, and light in the coop (on a timer). By now we should see a definite uptick in laying, but we get 3 eggs a day….now, after quite set one time of no eggs.

Egg eating: yes, we would see evidence of some egg eating, but not for at least a month. And we are looking for any signs of egg eating, and are not seeing any.

So, we are going to have to decide who stays or goes as the new chicks come up into the flock. We have 4 from the original flock that get to stay….but all the rest should be worried!!
