What did you do in the garden today?

Was out shopping doing things yesterday Drove past Sunbirds had to stop they had strawberries in.
This is a place like Menards for some of you ...
I found all sorts of starts ... Mustard Greens, arugula, lettuce ... bought another pot have fresh dirt with compost to set them in.. @karenerwin Happy Birthday.

Most everything has sprouted except the Paradiso Echinecea. All 4 luffa and all 3 Butterfly Pea sprouted! 😊 I have been unlucky getting avocado to sprout. I had a stratified seed upright in a little bowl for 3 months in some water. It split but never sprouted. I went ahead and put it in some soil. Figured I had nothing to lose but I seriously doubt it will sprout.

I took the rest of the starts outside for some sunshine since it is in the 70s today. Wish I could keep them outside but it will drop down around freezing on Sunday night. Think they would be OK as long as they are covered with plastic?

ILOVE those hinged covers. I'd have no where to store them and I'd have to have giant hasps to keep them shut, and I'd never keep them on the property with the winds we have here :( I'd open one and they'd rip off.

But am going to forward to my sister.
We have constant wind here, but I put hook and eye latches on and they work great.

It's funny, everyone says they are hard to sprout, but I throw my seeds in the compost & they always grow! I'd be afraid of the starts out in the cold, even if covered but I suppose it matters what they are, how long it will be cold & what the ground temp is now. If it were easy enough I'd bring them in, personally.

Pressure canning is going well, 100% seal success so far *knockonwood*. I like this machine. I did find a bit of a defect in the gasket, I really think that's the issue. I'm going to order an extra one. I'm kind of excited at the prospect of being able to do 2 batches at once, that helps with the guilt, lol.

Man am I rolling in eggs too - gotta love spring! I will start cooking DHs egg muffins to vacuum seal & freeze while the gettin is good. I waited too long last year & ended up buying eggs. I refuse to give away eggs in summer & buy in winter, I will find the happy medium.

Got all my garlic and onions in. I hope it’s not too early for that! I should have asked for some advice before I did it. Package instructions said as soon as soil is workable and that they both enjoy the cold?

Once they were in I watered and the ducks came haulin in trying to mate on my garlic and onions 🤣 So here’s the temporary “gate” that’s all I got on hand. Luckily all my ducks are tubby and this is more than enough to keep them out for now.

I’m just giving my excess eggs to a local food pantry. It’s really too early to start saving eggs for winter. Apparently the traffic at the local food pantry has increased so much they had to go from distributing one day a week to four days. That’s scary. But the cost of living has skyrocketed so much in the past 3 months it’s hard to wrap your head around it. Sorry for the rant. I usually start hoarding eggs for winter in August. My friend who lives in Boston has drummed up some more egg business for me so that will definitely help take the edge off the feed bill. I’m concerned about the cost of bagged soil to fill all the containers I hope to plant in.
