I have frost sheets that I haul out and have handy when stuff starts growing/flowering and we still could get frost. They have saved MANY berries and other tender plants.

I save the unfitted sheets when the fitted ones die for this reason, lol! My fig tree gets covered at least 3 times a year in the spring. I knew we weren't done with cold so I piled the straw right next to the strawberries knowing they'd be covered again.

I use both. I cut the corner seam so that they will lie flat. When they're done for the season, I fold them up and stuff them in the pillow case. They sit on the top shelf in the closet until they're needed again. As my gardens have gotten bigger, so has the pile of sheets!

FYI sparrows are called flying rats around here.

Our flying rats are called seagulls.

I'm sure you & Aaron are right, but I covered them anyway. It only took 2 mins. I'm sure they'd have been ok, but I live at a higher elevation here & sometimes it's MUCH colder than they predict. & I always get more snow than anyone else a mile down the road.

If it's that quick, then yes, better safe than sorry. My house is like that as well. When they say one temperature I can count on sometimes 4 to 6 degrees colder. Basically Im at the point if they say the temp is going to be anywhere in the 30's, I bring the sensitive stuff into the garage. The papaya, banana, sapote, aramoya, stuff like that.

@Wee Farmer Sarah - how far from you is Rockingham county NH? Looks like they culled 80 birds.

That's way northeast of me along the New Hampshire coast. I saw that several days ago. I've been trying to remember to check the APHIS site every day. There are quite a few commercial poultry "farms" surrounding me, but the ones I've seen are all enclosed. I'm concerned that there's nothing at all in Massachusetts. Seems a bit odd that a lot those migrating ducks don't even poop when flying overhead from Connecticut to New Hampshire. Who knows? It's too windy to do anything outside. It is March after all. Good to hear you are OK @Elyrian1. I decided to be a good mother and rearrange my garden plan to fit in 3 eggplant bushes for DD. I like eggplant, but not as much as she does and her community garden spot is only 4 by 10 feet. I picked up some seeds for that on my Walmart run along with onion sets. Yeah, I had to find room for them as well. I can squeeze in at least 20 feet of space for them. If I skip the sweet potatoes I can use that little bed to grow more onions. Which I just might do.

Celery takes an extra long time to sprout.
I took out plugs that were ready to plant, started another set of plugs and then when that stuff started to be ready to go out the celery was just starting to grow.
I grow Titus Celery what kind do you have?

I think I have Utah celery.

I planted mine from starts a gentleman that was moving gave me like a dozen plants as he could not take any with him.
