What did you do in the garden today?

Just went and looked at the flock sizes on some of those culls. I find 5 million to be more than a little mind-boggling.
Those two giant farms in iowa were egg layers too. I bet the hatcheries for chicks are on even MORE strict lockdown down.

No idea how that effects the chicks at the stores.
Depends where the hatcheries are located, I would think. McMurray's doesn't have anything about it on their site which is weird because they are close to other confirmed cases....

I found a dead sparrow in my flower bed yesterday. 👀

I can remember driving past giant poultry houses in north Georgia/Tennessee. The stink was always staggering at half a mile away or more.

There is an enormous egg facility about 30+ miles from here. On occasion I’ve had to drive by it. We saw it being built pre-Covid. It appears to have multiple floors, and, of course, ginormous ventilation apparatus. But, smell…none whenever I’ve driven by. The way it is situated, you have to drive by two sides of it, one of those sides takes you downwind of it, but no smell that I’ve noticed. But it’s fairly close to a city, so that might be why it’s not smelly.

Did you remove it (with gloves)? You can see what HPAI looks like in poultry on USDA APHIS - not sure about wild birds. Might be worth looking it up.
