What did you do in the garden today?

Thoughts on potential invasive plants being sold (seed packets in the store or plants)? My order from Gurneys included “chocolate plant” which is a vining plant that I was going to plant along the compost bin. While I looked up a bit of info before I ordered it, I didn’t do enough research. Apparently it is an invasive plant in 2-3 states that border Ohio. So, Ohio does not call it invasive …yet. Yeah, I’m not going to plant it, but irritated that it was even an option.
Maybe the states that border Ohio are to the south, and the plant will be killed in Ohio winters? :idunno

Trumpet vine is illegal in warm states, as it will take over. It's sold here in Michigan, as it dies back in the winter. It grows up from the roots again in the spring, but has to start from the ground up, I guess, because the ones I see only get to a certain size.

Cold and rainy here today and only a little better tomorrow. Sunday, mid 50s and sunshine! Then 60s and chances of rain for several days.

So Sunday will be a busy day, as I have lots to get done.

We got an inch of rain overnight. Everything is soaked and soggy. I checked the asparagus bed but no sign of activity there. It looks like all the tulips I planted last fall are popping up through the soil. Next week we dry out and warm up so I’m guessing there will be a lot of flower blooming going on. I uncovered the herb gardens yesterday and they both look good. Lots of parsley, thyme, oregano, sage and lavender. Running errands today and resting up for all the work ahead in the coming days.

@Wee Farmer Sarah what do you cover your herb garden with? You keep it covered all winter? I may need to do this in the new herb bed, my herbs struggle through the winter.

I planted the flat of pansies. I don't usually do pointless annuals but I needed some color around this place already!

I have to go out & take a pic of what that stupid squirrel did to my onions. I can only laugh now because it's my fault. I'll be lucky if I get any onions this year.

Broth is in the canner, the chicken bones are now cleared out of the freezer. I think I've made enough room for a 50lb bag of food in there. :yesss: & theres 3 bags of remnants for the birds. I really like using the pressure cookers for broth. I ran it through once for 75 mins & swapped in new water & ran it again. The bones are mush so it's perfect. & I have 16 quarts of broth, that should last me 6 months or so, maybe more. & now y'all won't have to hear me talk about canning anymore. :gig

Hi all, I literally have one minute left on my break. I went out to check on things in the shade garden today. Both tomato plants look great so I put a couple of stakes in there for them. The star jessamine in the central trellis is blooming and the beans and cukes look good too. :yesss:Have a great day all!

It's supposed to snow today so I will be covering my early spring shoots with a tarp to keep out the cold.

They told me not to plant anything before Mother's Day in the midwest but I am stubborn. So far stuff is coming up anyways -- I just have to remember to tarp everything when it gets very cold!
