What did you do in the garden today?

Well corn, peas and beans are next to be sown within 2 weeks. then 5 kinds of okra in mid-late may.. and that’ll be it outside, while inside I’ll start my seed in July and in September my fall planting starts.. lather rinse repeat.. Hope y’all have a great weekend.

Avoiding the great drifts of juniper pollen!
Been pretty much stuck inside all week due to that here. Cannot avoid it for chores. Can't breathe, coughing, itchy, stuffy, ugh. Cottonwood will be next, then ash and willow.

Dropped to 25 last night. everything in the hoop was covered, so it should be fine.

Fell asleep like a brick for the first time in ages and was sleeping hard, until the roomba decided to start talking in the middle of the night. Come on, WTH. It loudly announced, "let's get ready to clean!" or some such non-sense very early in the morning. Then I was awake. It startled me, so it took a couple hours to fall back to sleep.

Would like to go do stuff, but really don't care to if that makes sense.

Maybe will work on the new coop door, maybe make fresh seed start soil, eh, pfft.

Decided that if there are no NEW local cases of AI this week, within 80 miles, then the birds are being let out this next weekend. They have plenty of room inside, but the feather pulling is getting mean. I'm looking at YOU Bernadette (buff orps are nice, my butt). They've been inside since March 14, and while in for bad weather, I do start letting them out on nice early Spring days.

I'll at least take the walls off their run the next time the weather allows. At least that's more fresh spring air.

Haven't had any sleep. DH is in the ER. Think it's pancreatitis. I don't think we will get the garden done this weekend... 🙁 I need to go feed animals and take the sheets off the garden but I just want to go to sleep.... 😴
Hope all is well! :hugs

I've been thinking about it here too. They've been locked up since the beginning of March. I figured 1 month of no new detections & I'll let them out (which happens to be today). Hmmmm....

I can't believe all the snow & sleet everyone is getting - where is spring!?

We're fair game for snow/sleet/graupel until the end of April.
Just put a fair morning of odds and ends in so DH can inflate tractor, mower and wagon tires from the winter sit still.
SO MUCH pollen, my face is burny/itchy, eyes sticky, and can't stop coughing, not enough air coming in. ARGH.
Things in hoop look fine. Onions are finally waking up.
I put an old utility sink in the corner of the garden. I'll fill with some soil and toss in a sweet tater or two.

Yay!, I received the check for the chickens sold at auction. I did not stay for the auction, so I did not know how much they sold for or which ones were desired/ bid on the most. There was one box of 6 females, noted with breed or each, egg color they lay, and age. All were laying or had just started back up for the season, so they were good girls to buy, and ranged between 1-2 years old. The other box had 2 males aged 12 months - separated with cardboard so no fighting. They were from exhibition lines, and the SS was a very nice example of the breed, while the BJG was pretty good - body/shape/size/structure were all good, but feathering was not as good as we've seen, but maybe due to other males present/fighting. We couldn't keep all 3 males in the coop/run, and decided to keep the older male in our flock (age 19 months). Apparently 3 different buyers purchased the chickens, and I am not sure which chickens were bought for how much as this is not noted. But, 5 sold for $15 each, 1 sold for $18, and 2 sold for $25 each! It is nice to know that there were likely multiple bids for the birds. My guess is that the $18 or $25 prices were from buyers wanting first choice out of the boxes - So to get first pick you have to be the highest bidder - you do not need to buy all in a cage or box, but you can choose to do so if you want. And at these sale prices the birds are less likely to have been sold for eating.

Cold and wet today - ugh. So over this - give me some SUN!

AH! Gallbladder playing up?
I'm not sure but it's definitely pancreatitis. His triglycerides were over 700 and he likes his salted caramel whiskey. I think both of those are major contributors. He's not horribly overweight but he could stand to lose 10 lbs or so. Eat healthier... I'm a vegetable person but he prefers fried foods. Maybe this will change his mind about committing to a healthier lifestyle.

Got a little work accomplished in the garden. I turned and raked the soil in 4 of the beds in the main garden. DD put the boards for the semi raised garden bed together. Got some of the lattice tacked up before a thunderstorm started moving in. The real excitement of the day was spotting the very first asparagus spear breaking through the soil. It’s hard to see but it’s the tiny purple nub.
