What did you do in the garden today?

I let the birds out. Man are they happy! They keep running/flying back & forth. 😂

I cleaned out the she shed. Got rid of all my old jeep parts & old camping stuff from my days of following Phish & the Dead around. Waiting for the girls to finish laying so I can clean the coop between rain drops.

Nothing needs doin in the garden!

@TJAnonymous - I hope your DH is feeling better!

Chicks are 6 weeks old. A few days ago we removed the fencing so they had no "safe" place from the older chickens...but we reduced our flock by half, and they had been in a look-no touch area for a few weeks. No real issues...one BR, in particular, feels the need to watch and reprimand, but its not intense, just when she's in the mood to be picky.

Here are some pics, just because they are cute!

Steps to the coop, and some underneath - a perfect spot to stay out of the view of the big chickens.

Near the pop door into the coop. This shows all 3 breeds: EE (the lightest chicken), BA (black ones) and Golden Buff Cross (a production layer). We have 6 of each.

In the big coop. Checking it out!

Trying out pellets for the first time. We feed 20% all-Flock.

Checking out the roosts in the run, and the south side of the run. Coops is elevated, so they can access underneath.

The other side of the run. The pop door for the brooder is in the pic on left. They do tend to hang out here, but soon, we will be putting them into the coop to sort that pecking order out.

This has been a decent integration. But, we have nearly 3x the chicks as grown chickens right now, so maybe that helps. It may be a whole different story when they invade the coop after they are kicked out of the brooder.

I have a buff orp I'm ready to drop kick through an industrial fan ( I would never), but ugh.
She's just a snot.

lol! Sometimes the personality does not match the breed. We had Buff Orps once, but we ended up selling them. So, these Golden Buff Crosses have the attractive color, but are smaller and are described (per the catalog) "these QUIET, soft, buff colored hens are selected and bred for brown egg production, and they do their job extremely well. Pullets mature at about 4 pounds" So, we will see how quiet they are, but the hatchery indicated these are calm and quiet, when I specifically asked.

Cleaned the coop and repaired the run tarp which had come loose last night. Bought onion & shallot sets and potato starts. On & off rain all day. Tomorrow’s forecast has snow, but should warm up by afternoon. Going to wait until then to hit the garden. We have flood warnings all around so I’m getting impatient to plant but there’s no reason to battle the mud. Just have to wait a few more days. I just really hope this summer is slightly dryer than last year. We lost so many crops to wet soil…

My BO roo has two names. Darl, and Butthead.

Tomorrow is supposed to be partly sunny at least, and DRY! The only dry day in the next 5, so I'm doing small outdoor chores now. Stuff that takes 20-30 minutes, that I can quit if it starts to rain. The more involved things are happening tomorrow.

DH is gone for the week, and took Freya with him. So I plan to put rainy days to good use inside, doing stuff inside while I have the house to myself. And if it's not raining, it's supposed to be warm enough to work in the garden.
