What did you do in the garden today?

Bought some collard seeds and cucumber seeds at the store today. Hope to get them in the ground soon.

Gave the big chicks outside their first taste of fermented feed tonight. They started eating it with only a little hesitation.

I'm starting to see videos on YT pop up from chicken keepers up north that have had to have their entire flocks culled because of HPAI. Sad stuff. And Murray McMurray posted a video saying that their hatchery is okay and using heavy duty biosecurity protocols, but one of their egg suppliers got wiped out. They're not going to have a lot of the rare breeds for the rest of this year.

Glad I bought when I bought. Now, going to get a roof on the run before summer is over so when the migratory birds come back down and bring that stuff with them, they can't bother my birds with it.

I have miracle grow in shaker I like .. 7 have hatched so far.
5 blue eggs 2 brown ones.

Yesterday, I planted the rhubarb root from Gurneys, and the cheap, small roots for Rhubarb from Menards. The Gurneys root had a small spot of white mold, but clear buds/nubs at the top -one prominent, one small nub, but where the mold was at (halfway down the cut side), it was soft. Not wet at all, but soft. So, I let it “dry” out for several hours and planted it in a large pot as we will have to work on raised beds later. So, I am not sure that I will see that root grow. It *might* have had something to do with the long time in the box (next to a plastic bag that the insect netting came in)- you, know …travel, sit for 30+ hours, move again to another state, sit, then move again to close distribution center, then destination. Way too much travel, over too long a period for plant item.

Saturday morning I uncovered all outside plants and my brother called and had a dangerous tree leaning and splitting, needed immediate attention, so I dropped my plans and went to my brothers and fell a couple old junk hackberry trees that were in danger of falling on fence/barn.. got em down and bucked up and hauled to the wood pile and tops taken to the burn pile.. went and ate lunch and visited a bit, and back home by late afternoon.. so nothing got done here Saturday.. Sunday spent all day at mom and dads, they are moving... dad is in bad shape and they want to get somewhere easier for mom to take care of after he passes... so getting stuff organized and trying to figure out how this will all go.. so I did absolutely nothing in the garden all windy weekend.. storms and wind next 3 days now.. I’ll get some stuff done today I reckon.. everyone take care and have a great week y’all !!!
