What did you do in the garden today?

Just got home from TSC and HD. I found a cool solar light for the chicken coop, outside of course. We’re going Walmart now so I’ll look for some paint for the outside of the coop while I’m there. At HD hubs found a nice looking cantaloupe start so I need to plant that, but no bricks that match what I’ve already got here.

Oh so much bad news today! 😞 I’m sorry guys…it’s horrible when you lose one…

I have to leave a space because I came on to say that DH just came up to me. We are having our semi-circle patio redone this spring, and on the right side is the current garden and future coop/run. There is a walkway out to the back in the middle. He told me he wants to till the left side to make it symmetric, and a place we can plant flowers and bushes, and he will put a small raise bed in there if I want! I am beyond excited! I am already thinking I’ll move the perennial herbs in the box, maybe a few pumpkins to sprawl around, and my neighbor said she would give me some starts from her perennial flower garden! This side won’t be fenced, so I might have to erect a temporary lightweight fence to keep the pups out while things grow. If you could see me…beaming from ear to ear! 😊

Question for everyone. I know a lot of you use straw mulch. I tried once and had a ridiculously huge problem with slugs eating everything. Literally I could go out with a headlamp and get 50 in about 15 minutes. When I don’t use straw I still get slugs, but nowhere near that amount.
That's why I rarely use straw in the garden, the snugs and snails here are epic. But I do intend to try the beer thing, I even have some covers hidden around here somewhere.
Hubs bought tickets for Alan Parsons tonight too, I’m looking forward to a night out! Have a great day all.
I am soooooo jealous! Have a great time!
Anyone else have the image of drunk, angry slugs in their head? Anyone? Just me?
Well I do now! :)

Dang it, that is an awesome looking light, I'm going to have to haunt Amazon and see if I can find it.

Planning for a new garden! That's so exciting!

And I'm so sorry for everyone's losses, especially your pupper @WthrLady. That picture really got to me. :hugs

Weather is still freaking nuts, I had time to see to the chickens, cats, rabbits, and took Penny on her walk before the rain and hail hit again. And just now it's sunny out again.

I found out I can use any water soluble dye to tint my whitewash for the interior of the coop. I wonder if a little green tie dye powder would mix with the white and make it a similar color as that light. I’d like to do that inside the coop with white trim, and tint my barn paint for the exterior light grey and leave the trim white.

@NewBoots I haven’t looked at them on Amazon. The only thing I want from there is a gnome with a hula hoop that’s a solar light and the watering can with the “water” as solar lights. I shouldn’t waste my money, they all die, but they’re fun while they last!

Found it! Put it on my wish list to order when my check comes.

I dug up all (I hope) of the Sweet Woodruff I was stupid enough to plant in the herb garden. Chances are, I didn't get it all, and will be picking woodruff out all next year. Smells great dried, going to use it in the nests.

So S.W. has been relocated, along with three Martha Gonzalez Roses, blood lilies, and St Joseph's lilies. I'll put sumac there because it's partly shady.

Hope y'all's Saturday is going well.

The 50 sweet potato slips I ordered (25 Beauregard and 25 Centennial) showed up today so into the ground they went, along with 7 Ambrosia Cantaloupe (from seed), another 90 ft of drip tape and 12 Stevia plants I started indoors.

I'm so far behind on the garden work..between family situation and all the rain. I also got really lax about collecting eggs and now I've got at least 11 confirmed chicks across 5 broodies and AT LEAST 5 additional broodies sitting on an unknown number of eggs. I cleared nearly 2 dozen eggs from under just TWO broodies. I went through them with a candler and had to put 17 of them back because the eggs were really far along in development stage (within days). God knows how many are under the others... 😳 I think I'm going to have to sell some chickens at auction or butcher a lot of meat... Something's gotta give.

Ok I’m not talking badly about my elders, but we’re sitting at the theater waiting for the doors to open. Hubs is handicapped, and I find it amusing that the handicapped parking is filling up faster than the regular parking :lau

All the other concerts I’ve been to it was quite the opposite
