What did you do in the garden today?

I just can’t believe that the low temps are predicted to be no higher than upper 50’s maybe low 60’s ( with plenty in the 40’s) for all of May. 😳😞
I really want to get my tomatoes in the ground before I go out of town May 4 - 14th. I don’t think they will survive in the house. My pet sitters don’t have a good track record for remembering to water them.
I believe they saying was that it was okay to plant by Mother’s Day our last predicted frost date was April 15th or 19th.
Farmers Almanac said our last frost date was April 15th. I've been watching our weather closely. Supposed to be up in the 80s this this weekend but there's still a day or two next week that says it will drop back into the 40s at night. I'm also on the fence about putting plants in the ground. My gut says go ahead and do it.... I don't expect frost as much as just general chill that tomatoes don't like.

I will, however, wait until after May 1st to put my lemon tree back outside....

Farmers almanac said the same for us, april 5 or something 3 days later we got frost :( luckily it wasn't too severe so I was able to move some space heaters out and keep the plants safe w/o having to move ALL of them back into the garage etc etc overnight.

I sure hope the cold is over and the super hot is not too bad this year when that finally kicks in full blast.

I think I'm going to have to. I don't have a juicer so it'll get messy.

I still plan to make that Mock Apple Pie with Ritz crackers some day!

That was the best I was able to find too and now it's even worse.

Oh I hope the baby makes it. :fl

This is me all the time, I flit from one unfinished task to the next. :)

YAY! I love a happy ending. I don't know about you but when I figure out a problem and make it good, I feel like a genius. :)

I can't figure out this weather, and it just seems almost like winter has come back. At least the greens are doing well.

Not any gardening done, the wind, hail and blowing rain has me hiding in the house for now. The 3 live chicks we got from the last hatching are doing good, even tiny Miss Prissy:

But her crop is full at night and her unsteady gait has gotten better. We keep assuming she's a she, it'll break my heart if she lives and turns out to be a rooster. But our current plan is to have about 15 layers, hatching replacements and eating the roosters and most of the older hens. Some of our girls will get a free pass so we're hoping Miss Prissy will turn out to be one of those.
I seem to have the same luck... I've saved a handful of chicks from certain death and nearly ALL of them ended up being roosters.

Speaking of the little ankle-pecker....she (cause I'm optimistic like you....) is trying to help me type out this message....lol

I was thinking about using an old refrigerator truck (?) as a walk-in cooler. just need to find one or to make a room with the same system.
I would LOVE to do that....but given how much stuff like that is selling for, I can't imagine it would be cheaper for me than just buying a bit of lumber and insulation.

The fridge truck, those things can get expensive, unless you want an entire conex. If you can get the casing of it, w/o the wheels /axles dead truck etc it might be a bit cheaper. Look at your local ice delivery places, you know, the ones who deliver bags of ice to all the gas stations etc. Inquire what they do with their dead trucks. or better yet, if you really want one, find out where their insurance company auctions them off at. one of them gets in a front end wreck, totals the frame, engine, but body is still fairly intact, you could get it for very cheap possibly, just the cost of a tow. Just an idea.

My blue are in full bloom / berry mode. blackberries in a few weeks. (yes the girls get to stay locked up a few more weeks, TOO BAD DEAL WITH IT!) The fruit trees, the ones that didn't get killed, I put fertilizer down a few weeks ago but they are odd this season. The peach tree really fizzled out, kind of disappointed but the nectarine is just packed with fruits. The pear tree, been picky last few years, not happy about that but it is what it is.

Relatively nice out today. Im waiting for a good warm up though, this 60 day/30 night time temps are killing me.

I ordered some squash seeds, I was too lazy to pull mine out and see if they're bush or vine! I up potted the starts. I fertilized the blueberries and strawberries. I brought the starts outside to get a little sun, I'd like to get them out in the hot house next week. I have a thermometer in there now to see what the soil is at. The beans are a couple inches tall, I'd love to be able to pull the plexiglass off the top of them but it's just too cold.
