What did you do in the garden today?

I ran across some timing info for planting . Wish I could copy and paste it but it was on Facebook . Plant bush beans when apple trees bloom .Cucumbers when apple blossoms fall . Squash when lilacs are in full bloom . transplant tomatoes when Lilly of the valley is in full bloom . peppers and eggplant when bearded iris are blooming . heat loving melons when peonies bloom .

Yes mam, I get the gallon paint strainer bags from Lowes they are cheap and work great, a good bunch of castings and rabbit poop with molasses and suspend in barrel put giant air stones in bottom, and let it go over night.. the high output air pump and bigger stones really makes a difference. The next morning the head on that brew is sometimes a foot tall..lol. Then I have a pond pump (750 gallon per minute) threaded on to a solid pvc pipe with a ball valve and drop it in barrel, the other end attaches to a water hose and I turn it on slow and water my container plants with that set up.. works really good.. I’ll get it set up later today or tomorrow and get some pictures soon..
I don't have air stones but I do have an old aquarium in the attic. I bet the pump is still in it.

I think @NewBoots also makes compost tea.

I'm watering twice a day right now. Once around 9 in the morning and again around 6-7 in the evening. There's no humidity to speak of and it's dry between each watering. Our highs overnight are also in the 60s or higher now, so it's just evaporating or getting soaked out into the scrubland. Once I get seedlings up and start getting some shade on the beds (hoping that even happens) I'll probably drop back to once a day in the mid-morning.

I'm also keeping it moist right now to discourage kitty, but she has her favorite spot nonetheless. Grrrr
I cannot believe how much you have to water! That's like a full time job in itself! I water twice a week if it doesn't rain. Amazing the difference climate makes, sheesh.

Morning all. Bringing out the starts today, they will move outside permanently Monday as the weather looks to be warming up for the week. I'll be glad when I don't have to keep hauling them back & forth.

I have to pull the flowers from the rhubarb, I see it's bolted. The butterfly weed is popping up, leaves are starting to unfold on the trees. Need to turn the compost today. I watered yesterday, so good there.

@WthrLady, or anyone who grows horseradish - do you cut the flowers or let it flower?

Screen shot it. paste here as an image
Interesting, my iris just started blooming. If I transplanted my peppers now, they'd rip themselves out of the ground and run away from home.

Hadn’t thought to add bunny poop. What’s the purpose of the molasses? A recipe would be great!

Good morning everyone. We just got home from the park. As we were leaving I saw two chicks on the wall surveying the front yard so I went to scare them off. They are a rambunctious crew! I took a few snaps today, the first is the biggest of the oleanders outside the wall. It’s very happy!

The Arabian lilac is still struggling so this weekend I’m going to put down some compost and mulch it but there’s green all over it. Might do a little trimming too

The olive tree is a happy little camper

The bigger Arabian lilac, it needs a trim so the leaves aren’t on the ground

The last comfrey has sprouted leaves. I’m taking two to give to the DIL today, which leaves me four for my own yard

We’re headed to the worm farm after I go move the thing I think the chicks are launching off of to get up on the wall. Have a great day everyone!
