What did you do in the garden today?

I weeded some of the grass out of the blueberry patch and trimmed off the dead stuff. Then another bucket of weeds out of the garden for the chickens.

It was supposed to be sunny today, but the sun didn't come out until after 2. And then, boy! did it warm up.

I have finally tried rhubarb. Neighbor gave me a stalk. I cut it into half inch pieces, added about 1/4 cup water, 2 teaspoons of sugar, and simmered it until it was soft.

And ate it all. Now I gotta figure out where to plant some. And how I'll wait two years for it to get big enough to pick some. Oh, yeah... farmer's market.

@Sally PB do you just give the chickens the weeds whole/long or do you cut? I heard (or read) somewhere that touch long weeds/grass can cause crop impaction. If I could just dump them in I would but I just compost.

Not too much today, I am in the hurry up and grow period. First 2 asparagus spears ups, rhubarb can get picked next week.

We've replaced all of our wagon/wheel barrow etc tires with solid rubber ones. Worth it in the long run. I think we still have one more to convert. First flat is has, they're out of here.

Yes, that is my plan moving forward, replacing a blown tire with a new no-flat solid filled tire. I would have done that with the wagon with 4 blown tires, but it would have cost me over $100 just for that wagon, so I am buying time (I hope) and just replaced the inner tube on those 4 tires.

I sure am disappointed with the quality of the inner tubes I have bought as they seem to only last one season before going bad. Sign of the times?

I just dump. I try to keep the long grass stuff to a minimum for just that reason.

I don't dare compost this grass; the stolons don't die! I'd just be planting more of that stuff. So when I pull a bucket of just grass, like today, I dump it at the edge of the woods. If it roots, ok, it if dies, even better.

I just dump my weeds into the chicken run without cutting them up. I have never had any problems. If you are concerned, just run them over with a mower with a bagger and then dump them into the chicken run. Or, like you said, throw the whole weeds into the compost bin if you are concerned. Again, I throw whole weeds into the chicken run and have never had any problems.

Nah they've been like that for a LONG while. Annoyed the crap out of us. Tubes became impossible to find and I got sick of going to use a wagon and finding it had a flat, then taking time to try to FIND a tire, any tire that would work.

Look to see if you can find any that are 2nd year! The batch I bought last year were 2nd year & I will get a good harvest from them this year.

Got some thyme planted today. Mulched the walking onion bed & the herb bed. The tomato starts showed up today & boy are they the most redic starts I've ever seen - 2 inches tall. They'll go in the ground tomorrow. I'll probably go look for some type of super hot pepper starts, my friend is way behind on his since something ate them all so I'll grab some now & get some from him later.

I may have to order some. None of the plant stores I've checked online have it listed as in stock. I will ask my neighbor for a division from hers too.

I'll be running errands tomorrow, so I'll hit all the plant/garden places I can on my way.

It's a good companion for strawberry plants. I have a couple of beds of those that look really sparse. I think I'll put a couple of rhubarb in with them.

The older I get, the less time I want to spend doing stupid stuff, like changing out inner tubes every year. Is it OK just to want the stuff to work when I need it? I think I'm entitled to that much.

Anyway, I'm into replacing my tubed tires with solid filled no-flat tires - as I can afford them. This is the first time that I have had 5 flat tires to deal with over the winter. I could have bought the inner tubes locally, but got a set of 4 on Amazon for half the price. I just hope they are not half the quality!
