What did you do in the garden today?

Alright everything is planted, watered & mulched. Fed the more established plants. Turned the compost.

I have squash & 2nd planting of beans coming up, just waiting for the cukes now.

Moved some thyme to a spot near the gravel drive, hoping it might take over instead of weeds.

Got birds switched around in enclosures & took the winter baffling off the coop windows.

Got all my seeds and starts planted up. I need to buy more dirt to fill large containers for summer squash and cucumbers. It’s 83F right now. I’m sitting with the ladies while they graze. My feed bill will be going down a bit. This last bag lasted 19 days rather than 11 or 13 days. DD is headed over to pick me up and go to the local greenhouse to buy plants for her garden. I know I’ll be tempted but there’s really no space for more vegetables. Wah!

They say we should get rain tomorrow. I really hope so. The heavy soil garden has dried into cement. I tried to hoe it. HA! If I do much of that, I'll wreck my elbows and wrists.

As soon as I can hoe and rake it, I'll be putting on all the thatch and leaves I've been saving. Then I need DH's help to put gobs of wood chips on too. If it takes the whole pile, well, so be it. I was hoping to have some for the chicken run, but if not, that's ok.

The ground in the run is dust dry. Now when I empty the waterer, I just pour it out in the run. I might take a 5 gallon bucket of water out at lockup and dump it in a couple places. It can soak in over night.

So HOT. 87F. At least there is a breeze. I’m just not used to these temps yet.

My friend delivered 2 loads of dried cow manure for me. Now I’m shoveling it into the wheelbarrow and carting it around. It is very light, not very smelly. But, I want to get it moved and spread before it rains tomorrow. So, I’m getting 3-4 loads wheeled around and dumped, then a break in the shade with water.

I’ve added it to unplanted raised beds, and spreading it in the big beds. I’ll add some to the compost if there is too much.

Here it is: light and fluffy…

So after picking lettuce for dinner tonight I decided I can't bend to do it anymore so I ordered this for the deck:

A friend was supposed to make me one last year but I guess I'm never gonna see it. It will get good use all year for lettuce. I can wheel it from sun to shade on the deck depending on the time of year.
