What did you do in the garden today?

Its hot out there! But also breezy at times, so its bearable!
Ditto here! I planted the rest of the tomatoes, the itsy-bitsy pepper plants, and 2 hills of butternut squash. I was able to stay comfortable with the breeze.

Tomorrow I'll plant the cherry tomatoes, basil, the other butternuts, and put some more onion sets in with the tomatoes.

I need to get groceries, dog food, chicken feed, and maybe hedge my bets with a couple purchased pepper plants.

Now, why is it dog "food," but chicken "feed"? 🤔

Saturday I planted starts of all sorts of squash, zuke, cuke, and some watermelon in at least two different areas to see which microclimate wins. Also maybe to outsmart any bugs if they are in only one place.

Also hauled and sorted more garden, plants and greenhouse stuff from my neighbor. Will be making a game plan on best ways to make use of these resources. My other neighbor will help up-pot some things so we can maybe get a harvest to sell, or have larger plants to sell if a late storm wipes stuff out.

Today I hauled some mother plants to a special area up by my trailer to start propogating more succulents - they can take a long time.

Spreading compost and doing a final till for the main garden bed and flower beds. Also put in a cherry tree a few days ago. Sunflower seeds are sown and we’re hardening off our seedlings. Garden bed is around the 1k square feet. It was a busy week, sod is heavy.

We were concerned about soil pH, but it seems alright. Hubbards are back this year (kept for 8 months in the cupboard this year!), some new tomato varieties, and a boatload of herbs. Thyme and sage are my favorites for wild game. Also, sage smells amazing and has beautiful flowers too. We usually have some plots at the community garden but we are finally able to do some gardening here at home. I don’t smoke or chew it, but i will be growing tobacco for my work friends and for use in the field during the hunting season.

All the best.

You lucky thing! You got to use a sod cutter! I was trying to find one to do my new potato patch with but no one within an hour had any. Was it fun?

It got to hot to do as much as I had planned this morning. Does not help that it was after 9 before I even got outside to let the critters out.
Finished putting weed barrier down inbetween the potatoes and the garden fence. Cleaned another raised bed for the remainder of my potatoes, 40 row ft of Golden Globes. Then it was definate break time. It didnt cool off enough to do anymore real work till after dinner, so got some house work done. Then decided to do an egg custard with a strawberry Rhubarb compote to go with dinner. 😊😊

Refueled, managed to get my tomatoes in the ground. Though considering I am laying on a heating pad with an Icepack on my arm, prolly could have waited another day. Just a dozen plants, but that will be plenty for us.

What did you do in your garden today?

I picked a bunch of Rattlesnake green beans and Cherokee wax beans, a few tomatoes, three eggplants, some broccoli shoots, and jalapenos. Pretty happy with today's harvest!

Planted 100 strawberry plants, a blueberry bush, an aronia berry bush, another elderberry, rhubarb, horseradish, jalapenos and tomatoes. Oh and 9 fruit trees! Cherry, apple, plum and pear.
