What did you do in the garden today?

I pulled up a couple of red onion bulbs that were decimated by the tree rats. Salvaged what I could from them, threw in some fresh parsley, and made some scrambled eggs this morning.

Noticed I have a zucchini that's already 4-5 inches long! Came out of nowhere... I swear I just hand pollinated that flower no more than 2 days ago!

Has anyone ever tried to salvage freezer burned steak? We had a couple of top sirloins whose package was demolished in the deep freezer so they got freezer burned. I just couldn't bring myself to throw them away.... So I seasoned them really well with a dry rub and then put them in a brown sugar brine mixture for about 10 hours. Will grill them up tonight... The brine is supposed to help with freezer burn but I've never done this before so I'm feeling my way through the dark. Wondered if anyone else has done this?

It wasn't hogweed was it? That stuff is nasty.

pictures of weed please . Could be wild parsnip or stinging nettle .
I wish I had taken a pic of it, I'll go see if I can get a pic but I'm sure it's all wilted.

I do think it may have been stinging nettle now that I google it, I saw it when it was very little & the leaves sort of looked like strawberry leaves so I left it to see what would happen, then it got big & was obviously not strawberry.

I trim off the "burned" bits if its badly freezer burned. But any highly flavored way of cooking will help disguise the taste.

I have with good success. I've only done it with mild freezer burn and I soak the meat first for a little bit in the hopes that'll help.

I just came in from my morning chores and had my phone with me for a change. So I took some pictures as I walked up to the house and wanted to share. 🙂

Being in the desert, a lot of our property is bare dirt with agaves and trees.

Here's our parrots outdoor play pen. He spends a few hours outside everyday. I think it's good for his sanity and ours!

This is my walkway upto the house. I really need to divide my Sword Fern this year, but that's a project for another day.

I also checked our pond and rescued a bee that went to deep. The pond is always swarming with wildlife and bees.

Which makes me stare at my Mexican Elderberry that's blooming like crazy and wonder why there's no fruit forming! Think I need to get a second plant for better pollination.
