What did you do in the garden today?

We were able to finish up the garden most of the way today. Most things are in minus some greens. Corn/squash/beans went in together. Lots of beans along the fence line to climb there. Lots of herbs. Greens will be going in a little later as well as strawberries. Two honey crisp trees went in as well. We start a bit later here as we’ve been hit with frosts at the end of May. I will need to top dress with compost in some areas. I went a bit thin in spots while spreading the stuff we had ordered. Woops!

Chickens are still stuck inside but should be out within a week or so. They seem to be taking confinement Ok, but I wished they were able to run around outside. Soon.

Lots of rain here. Starting archery soon to get ready for hunting season in September. Hopefully another successful year and another full freezer. That is a wonderful thing to have.

All the best.

Was an absolutely beautiful day here, and yet the only garden work I managed was pulling the last of the dock where my squash will go. Played chauffer for a friends mom for a few hours, stopped and check on my SIL as she had just started her very 1st garden! :woot Of course neither her or my brother had listened to me on placement, so it is a full acre away from the house. And at least 300' from a water source. :th They are already regreting that. Finished out my day with cleaning out the hoop coop for the meat chicks, and cleaning and moving my layers coop to its summer location. Fun times. But the job is done and the birds are happy. So will my garden be next year, love having homemade fertilizer!

A little over a month ago I SECRETLY picked up two Welsummer pullets at the feed store because it's a breed I really wanted to add to my flock. Well, I'm pretty sure one of them is actually a cockerel.... And the 2nd one died today in a tragic accident. I had a 16" square piece of particle board on top of the brooder to keep chickens from pooping in the chicks' waterer. I noticed the board was knocked off and laying on the floor. I picked it up and found my Welsummer chick squished underneath. 😭😭😭😭 She was big enough that I don't think the board alone would have killed her so I'm speculating that one of the adults must have jumped on it after it was knocked off and the combined weight likely killed her. I'm so bummed.
Aargh- I’m sorry! It’s always the favorite, it seems.

Planted another 15 sweet potatoes, along with the 25 others I planted earlier if I get a half way decent growing season, I should be up to my eyeballs in sweets.
I ordered slips, they should arrive this week, I think, so I’ll be planting some soon. My neighbor planted sweets pretty late last year (mid June or later) snd got a nice harvest.

Aw, what a tragedy. I’m sorry to hear about the loss from your flock and hope you find another opportunity to add a welsummer chick soon.
