I found a really good spot to put my gooseberries!

Best part is, unlike beer traps, they don’t have to be replaced in the rain, and they look pretty while doing their job!

And you aren't wasting beer!

I got a yard of raised bed mix earlier this week, also got covid so the raised bed filling and planting is on the back burner.

So I can't win...I'm in the garden & hear something rustling in the strawberry bed. I go over thinking chippie & I was gonna bash it on the head ( ) but it was a baby bunny. It jumped out & got caught in the netting (the whole bed is covered in bird netting) so I opened one side, got the baby untangled, it screamed bloody murder & mama came running. Then I heard others moving in the bed. I put baby back & left the side open so mama could get in, then came in the house to give her time. So much for covering the strawberries. I didn't have the heart to kill the babies, wish I did, but I don't. THEY do not destroy everything like the chippies & mice & I have plenty of clover they eat.

Irrigation managed. Phew. I did find the break and repaired it. Now the orchard can again be topped off at the root ball with the turn of a dial. Toasty and wet out there and the TICKS OMG! They so gross me out. I've have tick illnesses too many time to put up with them, icky icky icky.

OH sprayed the weeks that take years to kill and pulled the rest by hand. Here's your funny of the morning. I was walking around the firebreak spraying bindweed breakthroughs and as I came around the downspout and the ground made that wet earth, squeak squish noise. Concerned as we haven't had THAT much rain and this spot doesn't hold water, I took a step back and started to pat the ground lightly looking for a sprinkler head or puddle or something. There it was again, squish, squeak. And again. I got down there, expecting a leaking rainbird head. OUT POPPED A FROG! LOL Scared the tar out of me! LOL.

G’morning gardeners. The water is running for the lemon tree, this was the first time I’ve seen it droopy so maybe it didn’t get enough the last time. The grade around the tree has changed, need to work on that. I ordered the garlic and greens, also a parabolic cooker. This afternoon I have to get over to Home Depot for soil and some stakes for a shade thing we’re putting together tomorrow. I need to take a block of ice out to the chickens on my next break. It’s only 0930 here and it’s already 99* Their new feeder came yesterday. It’s causing much consternation for pigeons!

We're heading for over 100 humid degrees for the next 4 days. I'm popping out to finish the irrigation system check and repair in the orchard in a few minutes and that will take care of my outdoor chores for the spring/early summer except for watering, checking,mowing, and livestock care.

Same....which means I'll be doing morning chores (feeding animals, garden work, etc) at the crack of dawn and then heading inside until dusk.

Will probably pick up some watermelon today to freeze for the chickens. I like giving them frozen treats when it gets so hot like that....

We built one of these for our chickens too..... Sadly it didn't even last one season. Even though it was NOT placed in direct sunlight, the hot weather broke down the plastic pretty quickly. I'd like to build another one but maybe with a heavy duty tub instead of a cheap plastic one.

Watch the thorns!

We've got over a half acre of southern wild blackberries. I SWEAR on my life that they were created by Satan himself.... Even the LEAVES have multiple razor sharp, hooked thorns on them.... Of course, they produce the sweetest blackberries you can imagine....but by the time you are done picking you look like you fought a mountain lion.

So I'm ready.....

I've always called perilla shiso. It's actually been difficult to grow, I think it needs cold stratification so it's never reseeded for me in 10a and I'm lucky to get one plant no matter how many seeds I try to sprout even if I store the seeds in the freezer.

Yesterday checked both local feed stores, they only carry Purina, no locally milled feed, and both were out. So I may end up at TSC more than I'd like.

I did a lot of weeding. I picked 3 strawberries for the babies. They didn't care. I took them 3 dandelion greens. They didn't care. I dug up a worm and a dozen weird armadillo looking bugs. They loved it!
