What did you do in the garden today?

The raspberry beds are finished! These will go between the fruit trees along the driveway to the barn. They are 6’x4’. Plenty of space between the trees. Just need dirt. We have the plants to put in them already.

Then I removed and scrubbed the clear panels on the chicken pen. These panels work well to block the rain. The White Plymouth Rocks inside are 8 weeks old. Mostly male as ordered. We have been feeding them 22% meat chicken feed, so they are a nice size for 8 weeks, and we plan to butcher in about 8 more weeks.

Then, spouse made shade panels that can slide in when needed. They are made from cedar fence posts he found on clearance a year or two ago. They look nice!

Very nice! I like the slide in part too, good
Idea!

I actually had to get these ants identified.
OMG that all sounds like a nightmare! I hate our slugs and snails but at least they don't bite the snot outta me.
I hope the neighbors didn't laugh too hard at me screaming...
DP only has to look at me a moment then say, "hold still" and I am jumping around and doing the SPIDER ON ME dance.
So...yeah, we're really looking forward to mosquitoes & horse flies next. 😆 🤣 😂
Can't wait to see what attacks when we go fishing & cook at the firepit.
Sheesh, don't forget the pterodactyls. I'm such a baby, I'd never go out. You and your kin are braver than me. :bow
I finished my garden hod but didn’t have time to stain it. It really came in handy when I was picking produce.
As promised @NewBoots here’s my hod. It still needs some tweaking, sanding and staining but it came in handy this morning.
That looks awesome! You cut out the wood pieces and wood burned the lettering and everything? Great job!

Beautiful job, it looks like something from Garden Beautiful!

I swear, you folks are so clever and talented, great job everyone!

And I had to post a picture of the littles on their first night without the naughty cockerels to push them around, instead of sleeping in a clump on the floor, they decided to spend the night in one of the nest boxes. Yay I guess? :hmm

Thank you. Yes I did everything pretty much freehand. Wood burning is easy on hardwood, but this is pine and a bit challenging. I need to find thinner screws for the handle. But most of the wood was leftover bits.

Hubs cut the grass last night
I'm surprised you have grass! I didn't picture that. 🤔

Nice job, I love it!!

@Acre4Me - beautiful, as usual!

Picked a ton more strawberries. Weeded a bit. Still have unopened flowers on the squash, taking forever!

Probably a stupid question, can different kinds of squash pollinate each other, assuming I'm not saving seeds? Like I have kabocha, spaghetti, crookneck, zucchini etc. Can they pollinate each other?

On tonight's episode of TJ's farm...

I was checking on the Littles in the main coop when I heard my ducks raising a ruckus. I peered towards the duck pen and noticed all the ducks, including a sitting duck hen, were running around in circles and going bonkers. I felt my heart lurch and took off for the duck pen. I intuitively KNEW what I was going to find before I even got there.... I was right. A GIANT Western Ratsnake was in the process of unhinging its jaw to eat one of the sitting duck hen's eggs. I grabbed a metal post and smacked it. It came at me and then diverted and went under the duck coop.

About this time, my husband came home from work. I yelled for him and told him there was a snake under the coop. He went to change out of work clothes into shorts. Came back out with my daughter, a snake lover, in tow. I told them both that the snake was giant... At least 4 - 5 ft long and black. We all started poking around under the coop with poles. They saw the snake and said it was small. I said NO WAY! It's giant. They managed to scare it out from under the coop... It was 18" Max and grey. Somehow it got away and we couldn't find it after it came out from under the coop.

I told DH there's NO WAY that was the snake I saw! So he went and got a car jack. We dug out the coop enough to get the jack under it and jacked it up. Sure enough, ANOTHER snake sticks its head out from under the coop. It was the one I chased under there. I brought my DH his welding gloves and he managed to catch it with my daughters help. They put it in a tub, drove it FAR away from here and released it.

BTW, this (bleep) is over 6 ft long
