What did you do in the garden today?

So, last year we tried Rutabaga - because, it was new to us and it’s fun to say ā€œrutabagaā€. We really liked those!! Turns out rutabaga are related to turnips and brassicas. This year I have 6 varieties of rutabaga to grow!
It is fun to say, "Rutabaga!"

My grandmother loved it. I can't recall what it tastes like. I'd love a report on your when you get some. The only variety I know of by name is "Joan."

I had terrier mixes that totally ignored chickens and killed rats. I do miss them.

another breed that is ok with chickens and kill rats is pinscher. but they are tiny dogs and cannot guard the house. I am thinking to get them and keep them in the chicken's runs at night and my 2 big girls (german shepherds) free in the rest of the plot at night only.

I plan to fil the rest of chicken feeders with dirt and transplant some peppers in there. that way if I sell the house I can take them with me. I might put 2 beans in each as well. for the rest my gardening consist of watering only.
Min Pins can’t guard the house? I better tell my granddog Bonnie that! :gig She’s part of a pack with dogs much bigger than her, but she is the guard. And takes the job seriously lol.

you are 100% right. any suggestion for a dog?
Any dog is a potential threat to your flock as all dogs have a prey drive to some degree. Start with a puppy that you can train from a young age. Know your dog and how much control you have over it. We can generalize all day, but in the end it’s about your relationship with your dog, and the effort you put into it.

the moment dogs realize I love my chickens they get jealous and want to kill them, lol.

Good morning all. I had a massive headache last night and was falling asleep by 1800. The teenager was gone, hubs was late and the little dude made cereal for dinner. I’m a terrible Grammy. But I was up at 0300 putting the soaker hose around the fruit trees and they’re getting water now.
