What did you do in the garden today?

I am so sorry, that must have been awful. We lost our old min-pin to two racoons that were under our back porch. Racoons are not cute critters, they are nasty predators that should stay out in the woods.

Is Google Lens an addon?

That's terrible, we hadn't heard about it. What a nightmare.

Planted the last of the seedling tomatoes, cleared nearly the last of the compost out of the finished side of the bins, up potted more of the peppers, staked and strung the biggest tomato bed, tossed the tired tomato seedlings (so hard to do), and dumped a bunch of weed-choked pots in the chicken run.

Rant incoming:
This morning as we were just heading off on Penny's walk, the annoying constantly barking dogs that belong to our neighbor were barking but this time from our backyard. They have now added digging under our fence to their charms. We talked to the husband (the wife is nuts) and he apologized and said he'd fix the fence issue and promised that the barking would get better. They have been promising to fix the barking issue for 3 years with no improvement. I had done a temporary fix for the fence when we got home from our walk. The real problem is these folks have not the tiniest idea how to train a dog. When one of their dogs get out of the yard and then come back, they yell at the returning dog, shouting "BAD DOG" when the dog comes home. WTH??? That only teaches the dog to not come back. They think that all dogs are Lassie and know psychically what the human wants them to do and if they don't, then they just need to yell more. There are currently 4 dogs on their property and not one of them is a good neighbor. I pity the poor dogs, they aren't housebroken, they never hear a "good dog" only "bad dog", they NEVER go for a walk, they have a tiny yard and one is an Australian shepherd. Why do such people even have dogs? And they they say on Facebook how much they love their dogs? This isn't love! I just don't understand.
Thats how my hubs is. SO frustrating 😡😡. I have to train him and the dog 🤦‍♀️. I dont get it. Dont know if I posted this here yet but we're bringing a new one home today. A 5 yr old poodle. Seems sweet and calm. We'll see 🤣.

Me & Mrs. Lobo Went fishing yesterday so not much done in the garden except I planted a catfish in the garden. Gafftop catfish, a saltwater fish (which is where we fish, not much fresh here) Good to eat but not fun ti clean. Way more slimy thay freshwater cats and you can't get rid of ithe slime. Wash it off and it comes right back, even when they have been on ice for several hours. Wife wanted to keep it but didn't wanna clean it so it got planted along with the other carcasses.
Been working down a pile of wood chip mulch tryin to keep the garden alive. No rain to speak of since March, approaching 100F and I'm watering every day.
Gottaget a way to keep from having to water so much. Wife likes sprinklers but they put water where it is not needed. I have used the soaker hoses before but the ones from the box stores suck. Always seem to have too much flow one place and not enough at others. They have a tendency to break.
Found a Melnor brand in Lowes website, not stocked in our store. These are rubberized fabric so I'm taking a chance they will be different, more reliable, than Others. Will be @ the local store Thursday.
If this don't work I may spring for a drip system, maybe something from Hoss. Expensive but I hate to see my hard work dyin for lack of care.
Make your own drip system. It's not at all hard or expensive. Glad to talk you through it if you like.

I'm having a much better day today than yesterday. Maybe because I'm getting stuff done and feel like I'm being efficient.

I hoed down several rows of weeds, pulled some others. The pulled ones went to the chickens.

I'm working on cleaning up after the fence project. Since the fence location changed in several spots, I had to dig out various things that had accumulated at the fence line. Like rocks, chunks of wood, cinder blocks, etc. Also, I had a lot of stakes propping up the old fence in places. When I have DH helping on a project, that project takes all precedence. So most of that stuff ended up in piles in the garden, out of the way. Today I'm getting some of that stuff put to other uses and put away. Whee.

The fence moved out, mostly. I have lots of sod that I would like to get out of there. Man, is that stuff THICK with grass roots. For sandy soil, it sure is solid. What I'd really like to do, is give it to the chickens and let them go to town. There are also low areas in the path that goes up to the uphill garden that could take them. We'll see what I can get done. It'll probably be a fall clean up/spring start up project.

Watered the garden this morning... Took well over an hour! Definitely looking forward to installing a drip system this fall so I don't have to spend so much time next year. The only thing I should have to hand water will be the raised beds, which is still a lot but I don't mind those as much because I have buried bottles which make it easier...

I'm making a bunch of egg bites in the Instant Pot this morning with tomatoes, broccoli, onions, cheese, and sausage. Eggs, onion, and broccoli are my own farm/garden raised. Looking forward to fresh tomatoes but they aren't ready yet. Another week, I think, at the earliest.

I was off to check on the chickens a little while ago when I noticed a vibrant red flower in bloom! I said to myself, "What weed could that be?!" ...Well my mint plants were both in bloom covered with bees, butterflies, and a dragonfly. Here is a pic of the flower which caught my eye!

I don't know what it is but it sure is pretty!

Using drip system parts (pipe, small hose and emitters) or do you have a DIY method?
I buy the half inch tubing for irrigation at the big box 100 ft at a time Home Depot and Menards have the best price.
1/2 inch hose repair ends (ACE Hardware) to make the connection to the tap on the house, and the end for draining for winter
screw on hose ends (ACE)
1/4 inch tubing, 100 ft at a time (also Menards or HD)
Whatever drip method end you want for the 1/4 inch. Rainbird adjustable are my favorite. (Amazon in bulk)
The 1/4 inch barbed to connect the 1/4 inch into the 1/2 inch
The hose cutter and hole poke.
Lawn staples.
Any connectors for the 1/2 inch tubing you need for your layout, split offs, Ts, etc.
Any extra ends and caps for the 1/2 inch for your plan.
Also a pack of goof plugs.
Manifold for your hose tap is nice so you can still use the tap for a garden hose by flipping the lever.

We have irrigation lines for our entire orchard, the greenhouse, the hoophouse, and the garden. Each plant has their own drip. Makes a HUGE difference in my sanity.
