What did you do in the garden today?

All my potatoes in the new patch that are coming up are up. The rest rotted. There is nothing worse then the smell of rotted potatoes. I dug the stand alone survivors and filled in empty spots on the good rows. Looking at about half what I planted this year. We got about 4" of rain over a week, right after I planted. In my clay soil I'm surprised so many made it.

I have about a 10x10 area cleared in the patch, thinking of some more pumpkins or corn for the pigs. Will see what seed I have to throw in there.

Also any idea whats going on with my yardlong beans? Yellowing at the top, not enough ferts? Too much?

I have never grown a determinate tomato! I'm very picky & will only eat brandywines. LOL. DH likes the sungolds so I grow them. I will roast them with veggies sometimes, I'll eat them that way.

Vinegar. You can make a very lovely scrap apple vinegar with the drops. Wont be as sweet as cider but will still be lovely.

Well, I got about a third of the pruning done before I had to stop... Did I mention that I love gardening but it rarely loves me back.... I'm allergic to most plant pollen so even though I wear gloves the plants still touch my arms leaving me we red, burning, itchy arms. Too hot to wear long sleeves... I did get the zucchini plants trimmed up to hopefully increase the airflow but only got 1 of 9 tomatoes done. I'll tackle some of the others tomorrow night. I need to water in the morning.

I did add more soil & aged compost to the potatoes and the patio container where I mystery tomatoes are growing. I also put some Epsom salt and bone meal in there... Pulled around a half dozen small starts. Left 4 vines that were all equally about the same size and flowering... Probably should pull 2 more but I couldn't bring myself to pick. I'm so weird....

Oh, my two little Hinnonmaki Red Gooseberry starts came today. I'm going to keep them in the sunroom until the weather cools down a bit....

i have 180 ish sunflower sprots
I'm going to feed the seed to my pigs' chickens and goats if they want them
and I'm going to make some flower with the sunflower
i will post pictures when they are taller but there very small and hard to see in picture

I always feed my chickens sunflower seeds in winter.

zucchinis this year are a big failure. I have just seen the very first pepper that I planted between zucchinis. if they manage to bear fruits then nothing is wrong with soil. someone told me that my zucchini must have some fungal disease. hope my peppers stay safe.

I also have a hard time pulling perfectly good looking starts, but they can’t all grow so some have to be pulled! Yesterday I forced myself to pull sone melon starts bc one hill cannot support 8 melon plants… still too many starts, but I pulled some from every melon hill and some squash hills too.

I always feed my chickens sunflower seeds in winter.

I planted 27 sunflowers for the first time this year. 12 were baby transplant from my cousins property he purchased and planned to dig up 100's of sunflowers. So far they are doing well and have huge stalks! I wonder if they are the mammouth variety! I hope so. Love this time of year in new england.

I wear these shirts from columbia. They are SPF and very breathable. Just do a search for spf shirts. They have saved me from my sun allergy!!

I wear them backpacking and i hike many miles with lots of weight. These spf tops are great.

That's a bummer. But maybe post a pic & see if someone here has any ideas?
