What did you do in the garden today?

I'll tackle some of the others tomorrow night. I need to water in the morning.
Seeing as it is likely cooler in the morning wouldn't that be the best time to prune?

I know they need to stay around 95F for a while but will these temps pose a problem?
Actually they DO NOT need 95°F ambient temps .... ever. What they need is access to heat when they get cold. A hen doesn't change the ambient temperature does she? ;) The chicks go under when they need to, run around otherwise.

You might want to check out the Mama Heating Pad thread for a "close to natural" safer alternative to heat lamps.

Wow it's chilly there compared to here! I love that we have a long growing season but we have 2-3 months smack dab in the middle where it becomes very difficult to grow much because it's SO hot. We're using shade cloth over our tomatoes for the first time ever and it's the first year I've been so successful with larger tomato varieties. I usually only get cherry maters. Every climate definitely comes with its own set of difficulties!
I grew up in south Georgia, so I'm familiar with the climate, but growing up I never saw my Papa have to shade his tomatoes... Must be getting hotter!

All from the good Lord out back in our tiny garden! The squash was sooooooo good!
Of course I had already sampled it the other day when I accidentally cut a baby one when pruning...Best flavor!
Dinner was superb!

There are several growing zones throughout Georgia so he may have been in a milder area too. The micro climate in my backyard is crazy too. My parents live a mile down the road and we have a completely different experience growing tomatoes, lol.

I think it's safe to say that the shade cloth did the trick though. 😆

Wow! Tomatoes look great! I have little green ones started but it will be a bit longer here in NY.

Watered the newer seedlings & potted plants, everything established in the ground can go another day or two. Added fresh worm castings around the tomatoes, cabbage, brussel sprouts, squash & zucchini. I need to get out there and work, but we have new chicklets & after work, dinner & chores I’d rather sit in the garage and watch them than work in the garden. Can’t wait for the weekend so I can do both!

I collected some broccoli, zucchini, and green beans tonight. Still waiting on tomatoes... 🙁 Feels like they are taking forever. I had to tie them up tonight because they have grown beyond the cages and are starting to fall over. Lots of leaf curling too... I think I read previously that it's from the heat. Pruned a little bit on the Romas and had to stop again. Itch, itch, itch, burn.... :barnie

Those look soooo yummy ❤️

Does anyone know of good short season tomatoes?

Where I am it's too hot for tomatoes from about mid-May to August and too cold from December to mid-February...so we have two short seasons for tomatoes.

I've had my best luck starting them indoors in the winter and moving them out after last frost but I don't get the quality or quantity I was used to when I lived up north. I keep trying to figure out how to get better results and I'm just not happy so far. I have to grow them in containers for water reasons.

Would love any ideas you guys have.
