See so far our plants are well growing like weeds.
Had a really rough nite. My cold has gone that extra step.
slept till noon guess I was up till 4 blowing my sinus out.
Will talk to Hospital tomorrow. Dr.s office is closed.

I wish i knew how to recognize tomatos suckers. Learning about the cucumber suckers and i think thats going good. Hey, have fun! Right?( Unless you desperately need the tomatoes because you refuse to spend 2.50 a pd any longer)!

Think of it as armpits yes, except they shoot UP not down out of the armpits. LOL.

The COOL thing about suckers if you let them get long, is you can cut them, and then shove them into potting medium or water in a jar and let them get roots. THEN you can plant THOSE early summer and get late tomatoes!

So very jealous. I gave up trying to grow cukes at the last house. Had a black walnut to contend with. Will need to try here next year. I miss homemade pickles.

There are so many different types of cucumbers! There are certainly some that will grow well for you!

Interestingly, these two sources (JSKGS and SHP) produced tomato plants with different leaves: one has typical tomato leaves, the other is potato leafed!!

Sounds like they aren't the same variety then! Same name, different tomato.

What's eating my lil hostas!

I was going to guess deer since that is what eats ours. They only like the variegated ones for some reason.

One thing about walking onions... Like asparagus, where you put them is where they ARE. Think of them as a perennial crop, and plan on dedicating space for their forever home.


May 6 is World Naked Gardening Day.

Dang, we missed it! Though May 6 could be some seriously cold gardening here. Shrinkage could be a problem!

And it wasn't that bad yesterday but it was turned over this morning. Also had vincas dug up around tree, daisies dug up and seedlings strewn everywhere.

Yeah I was doing pull n sniff yesterday trying to distinguish between Oregano and peppermint that some how got all interplanted!

Sensory overload, probably couldn't make out either!

What a waste of gas. Sat for so long one place we turned off the cars and just opened windows.

You need a hybrid, better yet a plug in hybrid. You would have wasted zero gas. Or an electric car, you would have USED zero gas.

NO! They all came up, there are only 2 left. Still on their first leaves. One is a pickling cuke, the other is a Suyo Long. I didn't have any more seeds for pickling to I put in all SL. I'll see if these come up AND don't disappear.

Maybe where YOU are! Tomatoes here don't even get put in the ground until the end of May. By the time you got suckers big enough to root there wouldn't be enough time for them to set fruit before frost.

I'm swimming in eggplant today and I made 8 small jars of tomato sauce!

I take the skin off a few long egg plant and chop it into bit size pieces, and sprinkle garlic salt on it and drench it with olive oil and micro wave it for a 1 1/2 minutes. I use these semi cooked egg plant as a main topping for my cheese pizzas. The egg plant adsorbs the olive oil and gives it a wonderful taste.
