What did you do in the garden today?

Took 5 gallon buckets of water around to the trees I planted in the pasture and my luffa that's out by the chickens. All of that stuff is too far away to reach with a hose... Although DH fixed 1 of the 2 hoses that are broken. The remaining one that isn't fixed is beyond repair and needs chucked. At least I got a few things watered tonight. I will water the garden in the morning since I didn't have time to do it tonight before the sun went down.

I went out to the duck coop to change the water in their baby pool and realized one of my duck hens hatched a duckling! 🥰 I'm so excited! It's our first duckling... All the other attempts our ducks have made have failed. I think because it gets sooooo hot and their coop has terrible ventilation. This new mama actually built her nest inside a child's playhouse that I put out there as a little shelter. I tossed some straw in it thinking the chickens might lay in there and the duck hen took it over. She's been sitting on eggs in there since early May! I've saved her eggs from 2 giant rat snakes in the past few weeks. So glad to see she finally had some hatching success... Now I'll have to keep her in the duck yard for a bit because I'm worried the snapping turtles will kill her baby if she takes it down to the pond.

I mean, that sounds like a pretty typical evening here in Georgia. View attachment 3179032
I was in Florida, so ya. Told you it was easy.

Went to go close up the greenhouse for the night and noticed the tomatoes needed tied up AGAIN. Did I NOT JUST do this?!?! We're talking they were another 18 inches longer. Now if they would just set a ton of fruit and get towards ripening. :::tapping foot:::: I'll cut feedings with pink punch to every 14 days now. (Onions still get blue goo weekly.) And walk through with my tapping stick daily. Heck, I'm using it to knock JB into the soap bucket anyway.
Installed a purple martin gourd tree today. I swear they were checking it out AS I was raising it. We are officially infested with PM and barn swallows. We stopped counting at 35 in the 'swarm' during the evening bug feeding festival.
1st tomato should be ripe on Sunday. DH will be thrilled. This is a mountain sugar variety.

A totally black skunk wandered though last night. Leave it to me to have a weird animal living here.

Sorry,
Blue goo is regular miracle grow
Pink punch is miracle grow that has FAR less nitrogen in it. It's the nitrogen that makes nice flowers and green garden plants, but on tomatoes, all you'll get is greenery and little fruit. This stuff also has some of the other stuff for better vine fruit.
Has tomatoes on the label.

A black skunk? This brings back memories of looney toons with the black cat that would always get painted with a white stripe somehow, lol. (Its past my bed time, don't mind my mindless prattle, lol)

I started taking over a portion of our kitchen table with gardening doodads, lol. It has either been blazing hot or raining outside so I will officially be trying to grow stuff in the aerogarden, a tray of microgreens, and mushrooms! My thoughts are that I can grow lettuce inside while it's hot outside and herbs inside when it's cold outside!

we finally got little rain this morning. I had to water only 1 paulownia tree. temperature dropped a bit. nice to breathe again. I plan to butcher 4-5 meat birds tomorrow (10 total). I have just ordered 2 egyptian fayoumi pullets. the guy will go to his parents to north/west greece by the end of this month so I expect them to be here some time in august when he gets back. better for the pullets to spend summer on a mountain.

Ah ok...I hadn't been using miracle grow on anything except flowers.
The garden just gets bone meal, plant tone, fish emulsion, and worm castings...does that do everything it needs reckon?
