I think I'm the only person under 60 who doesn't have and has never had a social media account with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, et al.

Watered and weeded yesterday. Tomatoes are finally turning and pumpkin and squash vines are flowering. Here is a pic from my kitchen window.

I have a broody hen, a Leghorn. I thought it was impossible! I just shake my head. I doubt she will make it the full 21 days but I put 5 fertilized eggs under her. She has sat for 2 nights on the nest and never moved at all yesterday. She is already small but mighty. I gave her some water on the nest, tried some scratch and boiled egg but she wouldn't eat either but she drank. Time will tell. I should probably borrow a cheap incubator from someone. I just can't believe she is sitting. She is flat as a pancake, growls and has a turkey tail.

I am thinking about sort of sunken bed filled with aged sheep manure (looks like dirt) for root vegetables. I have been adding different staff for 8 years and when we have no rain in summer it gets as hard as concrete. so cartoon/geotextile and loads of aged manure for my future garden at my new place seems to be the only solution.

Gypsum loosens soil and is a source of calcium for your plants. Sunken beds will help keep the water there for your garden.

What are the requirements for growing peanuts? I've never considered them.

As I said previously, I do not have a whole lotta experience growin them. First time was just a whim with peanuts already bought for eating. This time I just googled "Growing peanuts". Did a whole lotta reading to decide if I could do it this year or have to wait for next year and what variety was suitable for my area.The cheapest, most convenient way to get started would be to purchase a bag of raw, unshelled peanuts from your grocery store and plant some of 'em.

I'm 60. BYC is my only social media. I will get a Facebook account when my novel is published and I need more online presence. Since I wrote it over 10 years ago, and no agents picked it up back then, I doubt it will ever be published. (Not going to go the self pub route.) Now, my second novel... is about 50 pages long, so far.

I'm on my 3rd one in 3 yrs... Can't say much on longevity but the Instant Pot has become a necessity in our house.

Mine are still going strong, no problems. Time has flown, so I don't know how old it is, but 3? years, at least.

I need to use my pressure cooker (not an instapot, but same idea) more! What do y'all cook in it? I need ideas. I've only ever canned in it, made broth & a cheesecake once.

If your pressure cooker is aluminum, don't use it for cooking, as the metal can leach into the food, especially with acidic foods (tomato based stuff, etc). I got rid of all my aluminum pans long ago, when the metal was linked to Alzheimer's.

I cook brown rice just about every week, in bone broth. I have a recipe card box of IP recipes that I really like. I made the best ever beef stew in it. Pressure cooking is great for long, slow, moist cooking. It make the long and slow not so long.

I've read it's a good way to cook tough old chickens when they go to freezer camp.

The leaves are turning yellow, then brown & falling off - all the other types of beans in that bed are fine so I have no idea what they want &, quite honestly, don't have it in me to bother caring! The beans inside get too big for me to enjoy - even when they're small. & they go from ready to stringy in a day. The taste isn't bad though. I may just be picky.

& y'all are much better people than me - I don't answer the door! I look out the window at them, shake my head no & just don't open the door. LOL. I once freaked out on a JW. They walked up to me in the middle of my property, past my no soliciting sign, while I was outside working on pulling bushes with the winch on my jeep (which can be dangerous & they had no business being anywhere near). They had the nerve to argue with me when I told them to go away. It was 100 degrees out & they had a poor little 5 year old dressed up in a full suit walking with them. Get outta here...

Reminds me of the timea few yrs ago, when i was @ the garden unloading about 3 yards of sand off a trailer to the garden with a shovel. Jehovas Witness guys drove up and wanted to talk. Got kinda irritated & told 'em I was busy. They asked if I wanted some help & I said "I'm not askin but if you're volunteering there's some shovels". They took off their jackets and ties and got busy. Got that trailer unloaded in a hurry. Gave 'em each a bottle of cold water, Then I informed them I was a devout Catholic and they were not gonna change that. They left.

I highly doubt we will get any this year. I could probably easily talk my husband into getting 12..... I think I was planning on 6, but chicken math, right?
ETA: 13. Because 12+3 does not equal 16...

We once had someone leave their business card TUCKED BEHIND the corner of our no soliciting sign. The NERVE had me laughing and I had to take a picture.

Also, I noticed one of my tomato plants seems to be turning yellow, but in a way I've never seen before. My guess is some nutrient deficiency. Has anyone else had this happen (you might need to zoom in to see it better):

You're right 12+3 is 123! Chicken math is a weird thing and doesn't follow standard rules.

We got some more rain last night! I'm putting off watering until Thursday, I think. Today it's time to dig the garlic and get some more weeding done.

I currently have 4 insane buff brahmas that are constantly going broody, and they are impossible to break. They are driving me towards insanity.

Tossed greensand and bone meal on the hoophouse tomatoes last night and watered it in. I can't even imagine that the soil in there was low in potassium, but who knows. Instead of being bushy like their siblings in the garden, they are incredibly tall, with tiny leaves. Next year I'll test the soil before planting I didn't have time this year.

Pulled over 100 garlic yesterday after adding a second coat to 3 walls of the new coop. Have about 50 more to pull today and one wall left plus roost bars & nest box waiting for second coat. I have kale & some other greens seeded and will hopefully plant them where the garlic was after a few days of letting it rest.
