What did you do in the garden today?

Going out at night with my UV flashlight finally pays dividends. It looks like one of the hens is getting a bed-time snack tonight. I see you...

It never occurred to me to try uv at night to find the dang hornworms! I was so tickled when my garden huckleberries survived winter and started blossoming in spring...but everytime I blink their getting gobbled up by hornworms and I can't always find them.
It's hornworm hunting season tonight!

I saw lightning on the beach camera this morning so I scrapped my beach plans. Then thunder crackling directly overhead so I waited for that to subside before doing garden work. Not a drop of rain of course, but the day isn't over yet and the sky is getting dark again. I finished assembling the last two raised beds and made the world's smallest trellis for the asparagus beans. Love how easy it is to pull weeds and pound T-posts in this Florida sand.

Good afternoon gardeners. Not much going on in the garden today. I had planned to plant turnips earlier but the seeds I thought I had on hand must have been a memory. I ordered some that will arrive tomorrow. We didn’t get a whole lot of rain yesterday but a cool front moved in overnight and the temps haven’t got out of the 70’s today. I made 3 loaves of bread that will keep me in bread for the next few weeks. I also picked my first okra pod of the season this morning. I noticed tiny figs forming on my fig tree this morning. Fingers crossed they get big enough to eat. Tomorrow the plan is to whack down the weeds in the big garden area then water everything. I’m hoping the long range forecast changes because we’re heading into another stretch of 90+ temperatures at the beginning of next week. I just got my electric bill for the last heatwave and it’s a good thing I cut cable so I can afford the electric bill. Lol!

They glow a weird green, like blue green glowstick.

Day 10 of this hell.
Crawled in bed last night with the start of a sinus headache. Woke up with one at 5am, took tylenol and went back to bed.
oozed out to the sofa at 10am for more meds and slept there until 230pm, fully expecting my left eye to explode off my head.
This strain is every bit as mean as the March 2020 I had.

One of the cherry tomato plants I bought as a new variety was mislabeled and is actually a useless currant cherry.
DH likes the new orange sunrise ones I found, so I'll save some of those seeds.

Supplies for the new next box came today. Don't know if I'll rally enough to put it up today or not.

Feel better soon @WthrLady !

Today I put in my kale, collard & arugula starts since the high was only 75, the lowest in 2 weeks. I also tried to tie up the tomato jungle. My tomato plants are out of control, even when removing the suckers!

Pulled the onions that only grew to mini size, there were about 50, and that gave me room for the transplant. Sliced the tip of my finger when I was cutting them off…I want to start dinner but have to stop the bleeding first. 🙁

Ants are all over the cucumbers, cantaloupe and loofa plants. It’s been super hot and dry here. What are you all doing to combat ants?

Try neem oil. Ants can be a sign of aphids which neem will also kill. Not too much, will burn the leaves.
