What did you do in the garden today?

Purslanes everywhere here too right now. Purslanes edible and makes a good treat for any animals you have by the way. Horses, goats, chickens etc.

I tried giving it to my pullets but they turned their noses up! Could always take to the chickens at the farm. They eat EVERYTHING we give them (veggies and scraps, not junk food lol).

Also, making some dill pickle relish this evening. 18 Pounds of cucumbers. Not from my garden, but from a neighbor. I never had time to get mine planted! So thrilled to have some!

I didn't notice the FLY on that one cuke until just now! OMG

And this oddity I found while picking peppers - WTF?
These are both growing on the same plant. Anyone know how this happens?

What kinda beans? There are determinate and indeterminate (of a lot of plants). Determinate Produce lots of fruit, pretty much all @ once while an indeterminate gorws less @ a time but longer. When they stop producing to your expectations is when I remove them from the garden.
On corn, pull back the husk to reveal a couple rows of kernels. Crush a kernel or 2 with your fingernail. If the resulting juice is milky colored it is done, if clear leave it a few days and try again. This usually happens about the time the silks start to turn brown

Royal burgundy. Didnt know beans are also determinate vs indeterminate. So much to learn!

Oh! And I got a surprise in the mail that's going into the garden tonight! Nature's Good Guys (from whom I ordered fly predators) sent our next order, and included a free package of ladybugs!!!

I took a walk through the garden this afternoon. Lots of mess to clean up from the chickens and the wind. There’s new growth on the plums and one of the apricots. The other apricot is looking rough, I don’t have high hopes. Things look to be drying out so will spray with neem tonight when it cools off. We have pretty good chances for rain for the next week so hopefully we’ll get a break for a few days anyway.

Was checking the next cantaloupe on vine to see if green had gone away on other side and it fell right off into my hands!
Really large! Got it in frige!
But did still have a little green on the other side...will it ripen anymore? Or is there anything I can do to ripen it further?

I cleaned about half of my garlic to empty my drying screen for the onions that are ready. Good news and bad news. Good news: most of the cloves are HUGE. Bad news: instead of 4 and occasionally 5 cloves, I'm getting 3 with the occasional 4.

Other bad news: Some kind of teeny little worm was eating/burrowing in a few cloves. Any idea what it is?

I figure this was inevitable, so I'm planning to plant garlic and onions at the other end of garden next year. Except the EWOs, of course. They have their own bed for the rest of my gardening life.
