My Atlantic Giant Pumpkin plants have at least 5 decently sized pumpkins on them, so there's that, at least. I am really unsure of how I am going to preserve them... I definitely don't have enough jars for everything I want to do....

First average frost is the week of September 21.


I canned peaches yesterday, but I've never done it before, and I am concerned I did it wrong.... they sealed, but the peaches rose above the liquid... do I need to eat them sooner than anticipated? (In hindsight, I should have used all clear or all green jars)

I don't can much now but have in the past so take it with a grain of salt. As long as the lids sucked in and sealed good I think you will be OK. You have killed off all bacteris with the heat and as long as the lids are sealed no more bacteria can come in. Hope others chime in though.

Trombocino summer squash. Does not get hit by SVB. Grows these long squash, which cook up ljust like summer squash.

the sweet potatoes that are not under plastic - full sun, but no black plastic like most of the other starts. I'm interested in seeing if it produces. notice the dry cracking soil....and I water them every day!

patty pan squash. I have two types planted, but one was definitely preferred by the SVB, so they will need to be pulled so I can kill the nasty little caterpillars in the stem.

I planted some late tromboncinos but they got got choked out by weeds I think, or maybe my husband pulled it along with the weed when he was helping, not sure, lol, so I guess I'll be trying those next year instead. We may have just enough time for me to get a few to grow though. Might be worth a try. We're past our risk of vine borer here anyway.

Too bad you aren't closer. I've had the biggest harvest of watermelons to date! More than enough to share. It was my first year growing Black Diamond watermelon and Congo watermelon and they were both very productive, especially the black diamond though. We also made watermelon jelly and it's really good! So far it's my favorite way to preserve watermelon. I think I'll try making some watermelon fruit roll up as well but I don't think that will last quite as long as far as shelf stability.

Ich freeze my fruit roll ups, they don’t loose their color that way and are fresh

I planted some late tromboncinos but they got got choked out by weeds I think, or maybe my husband pulled it along with the weed when he was helping, not sure, lol, so I guess I'll be trying those next year instead. We may have just enough time for me to get a few to grow though. Might be worth a try. We're past our risk of vine borer here anyway.

I have that too, hubby hates working in the garden, when he is forced to help, he destroys more than he helps

I really need to get out to the garden and clear away old stuff... I STILL haven't seeded the fall garden yet. It's just so dang hot and I don't want to be out in it. The only thing I have going really well are the tomatoes I started a few weeks ago. I have 1 in a 5 gallon bucket. I had 2 starts that I moved out of the 5 gallon bucket into a temporary pot. I just moved them into a 7-gallon grow bag. They are all 3 doing great in partial shade. In next year's garden, I'm definitely planting tomatoes in partial shade...

Lol, Yeah, I didn't tell him because I was grateful for the help but he also pulled all of the dried bean pods out that I was saving for seeds.
