What did you do in the garden today?

Today in the garden I put netting over my raspberries so my crafty chickens can't get any more of them.

Today I got a handful of okra from the garden. I won't need to water for a day or two, maybe three even. That storm dropped somewhere between 2 and 3 inches on us I'd say. That's how much water was in every empty bucket, cat food bowl, etc. Yesterday I did get out and pull all the grass out of the front garden. My tiny asparagus has sent up a tiny crown. It's adorable! Lol, at least something is growing well. The watermelon plants, three of them, have set a couple of fruit. They have a ton of flowers on them still so there's room for more, and time too.

Tomorrow I have to find time to get out and fix the planted garden beds. The rain compacted the top layer and they're crusted. I'm worried the seeds won't be able to come up (assuming and hoping they didn't all run away).

My okra didnt do well t his yeaer, but the sweet taters did and the jerusalum artichoke sort of did. Right now its pretty much wait for fall to kill the sweet taters off and dig off what I got.

Good news, in sept there is supposed to be a few more truckloads of zoo poo for the taking so im working on my 'work force' if i can get a few truck loads done im in business for the rest of the year with the 7 pots i need for 'everything planned so far this year'. Well maybe 8 pots, got a cardboard, grass clipping, and chickenpoop bod wondering how it will do. might just tea it once or twice then see if it's genuinely able to be usable

How do you know when the Jerusalem Artichokes are ready? Mine are very tall.
I harvested 45 yellow cherry tomatoes from 1 plant today! Picked 3 zucchini, a few green beans, some paste tomatoes and some regular cherry tomatoes. Oh and a very small eggplant. 🤣
I made stew when I got home from work. I used onions and potatoes from my garden 😁
Speaking of work, 60% of the employees at the Walmart I work at called off work on Sunday 😞😡
It sure made it hard for the 40% of us that came in to work. Not sure why so many called off. 🤷‍♀️

Not just if you wear contacts. Also if you have fingers and eyes...or just a face. I still remember the first time I cut up a bunch of my habaneros for salsa and I told myself, "Gloves? I don't need no steenking gloves." Then an hour later I got something in my eye and reflexively sent a finger in there after the offending particle. Lesson learned.

I do that all the time. never learned the lesson, lol. and no way to put gloves for any reason - not sure why but that's me.

Mulch can help prevent that crust.

Harvest Jerusalem artichokes through the end of September usually Karen. They take roughly 120 days I think. Before frost and snow since you get those things. Nice haul from your garden!

I haven't grown it myself but I believe I see people digging up Jerusalem artichokes when the plant dies back. Only dig up when you want to eat it because they last a long time under the ground but not once they are dug up. There's also some kind of special preparation so they don't make you quite as gassy.

That's crazy that so many people called out!

My artichokes I just waited until the end of the season and they died offf like my sweet potato's did and kind of dug them both up at the same time.
Leave a bit in the ground and they will come right back, they are perennial, or plant some back in come spring time.
