What did you do in the garden today?

Yesterday I drove up to my mom's place. She wanted me to go to a Master Gardeners class with her. I had no idea what the topic was going to be. They ended up doing a class on safe canning (gave everyone a free jar of canned green beans they made during class) and a presentation about soil health. The guy from the extension office that did the presentation on soil also grows grapes. After class, I pulled him aside and showed him the pictures of my Concords to get his opinion on what's going on with them. He thinks they might have a virus. He wants me to bring him about 5 leaves on Monday and some soil for testing. If they do have a virus, there is no cure. I will have to rip them out completely. Let's hope that's not the case. 🙏🤞

holy moly! Though I don't wish for that warm of weather...looking ahead at mine I have lows in the 40s next Wed! and so it begins
I'm shivering just hearing that!
No, have you? I'm mostly growing them just for scrubbies because I go through a lot of them. I use them to clean out feed bowls, water troughs, etc.
How do you process them? Just dry or does it take more?

Fingers crossed for your grapes! That class sounds wonderful.

Typically they turn brown and dry out on their own. Then it's a simple matter to peel off the outside, shake out the seeds to keep for next year, and bleach/wash the scrubby.

I also keep a few in our master bath and give away a few to friends & family. They really are wonderful and efficient for lots of different uses around the house.

& that's what I'm doing with summer squash right now, they're draining as we speak. But I did noodles instead of shredded this time as we eat them as pasta, did shredded yesterday. I should have enough to get thru winter also. Excited about that.
How do you make them into noodles?

I think I gave them to my sister, lol.
I love you Sueby! Sister from a different mister. :love

I have a spiralizer! Makes quick work of them & they're great as a pasta alternative. This is the one I have, got it like 8 years ago so would probably not buy the same one now, but it does work well.

Here's, I think, 10 or 12 spiralized squash draining:

We got some huge thunderstorms - I can't wait to go check the rain gage. I bet we got a couple inches! :yesss:

(ps, I'm still trying to talk DH into moving to the PNW :gig)
