What did you do in the garden today?

Just enough rain yesterday to measure and knock down some dust. Not enough to sustain or save anything.
mid 90s all week.
The heat is OLD.

4 quart jars in the canner last night, 3 failed
3 reprocessed 2 failed.
Switched lids, ALL sealed.
I AM sick of these poor quality lids! Ball is getting a letter from me, on paper, in the morning.

Spaghetti sauce on the stove simmering.

Dug up the last of the potatoes this morning. Picked parsley and basil. Jarred up dried basil and oregano. The parsley dried pretty quick so I’ll jar that then do another batch of basil. Made about 4 pints of Venison bolognese with the ripe SM tomatoes. I had some with pasta for dinner last night. The rest is going into the freezer. I’ve been taking a break from peaches today. Will get back to slicing and freezing tomorrow between loads of laundry. Rain is forecasted for tomorrow, however, I’m out with the chickens and the sky just opened up. It doesn’t look like it’s stopping. Oh well. Need to feed the chickens and call it a day.
PS. I do have an umbrella with me. Lol!

that's the first step. the next one will be taxing them.
A while back I saw on the local news, NC (my state) was asking backyard flock owners to voluntarily register their birds. No penalty if you don't do this. I wonder how many people did? I could see no good reason to do this.
I wish we had just ONE rainy day... We haven't had a drop in over 2 weeks now with no rain in the foreseeable future either.
Me too. It has been a long hot summer. I feel like I spent the last 3-4 months watering. The soil is dusty dry again.

Yes mam, you got that right!

DH had a few days off and helped me so much in the garden. We picked lots of butterbeans, cucumbers and sweet bell peppers. Also got the green beans, purple hull peas, and squash pulled out. Now I have space for the rest of my greens. I set seed for 2 types of mustard. I've been watering, watering, watering. This morning went to check on things and you guessed it watered! 🤣 The mustard is starting to come up! Yay! I've got another batch of bread and butter pickles canned too.

Registering your flock, NOTHING good will come of it.
Well, the 'experiment' is over now, we got the data we need on allowing 'backyard chickens', so all ya'all who have them, can now get rid of them. We'll send code enforcement around with their ticket book just to make sure nobody has to complain...

We are way out in the country on private land with no restrictions. Only building codes that apply to all in the county. So I saw no need to register any animals. I don't like the idea of being on another list sitting somewhere. The tax folks know where we all are if they want to find us. Don't need any more lists.

I'm so sick of watering the garden. You have no idea... It's usually a given that I have to water through July and August. It's unthinkable that I'd have to water June through mid September and counting.... 😤
