What did you do in the garden today?

says going to hit 37 tonight, that means frost me for me. dammit, I did not get the heater installed on the tilapia pond. I might use a heat exchanger I use for purifying ... umm.. water. to do a makeshift something to keep them warm. Thankfully I only have half a dozen or so for the time being so if they go tango uniform it's not a huge loss and being it's a cold death, i can still salvage them in the morning for a snack.

That umm…water is suspicious :gig

Get used to that. As prices soar, people are going back to the 'old country' days, and all this high off the hog stuff is gone, they want the other foods that our grand parents used to cook from the nether regions of the animal. Now that more can't afford their food. The Millennials (yuppie larva) will go to drinking home brewed coffee The millennial larva (gen XYZ) will just cry about it and take 4 selfies to show themselves crying and tell mom she better not DARE send anything BUT starbucks down into the basement for them :D while they post 10 fakebook posts lamenting the days when they used to get a WHOLE slice of avacado toast for breakfast from pantino's. The rest of us normal folks will go back to scrimping and scrounging and making ends meet with whatever we can because we are used to not having much, and how to make something out of nothing to keep the family fed so they can go out to work to keep a roof over our heads. 25 miles each way, up hill, both ways, in the snow, barefoot, at 4 am, in 3 feet of snow, carrying 4 buckets of milk for the market.... did I miss anything :D

Wow! Leaves down and disposed of, winter crops planted, and some frozen, looking for heaters for waterers,ponds.....
I just got cold hardy plants in ground, leaves still on trees, never need heater for waterer. Snow? On roof? What's that? J/k I know just not an issue here. It has been Chilly here, 35-40 at nite and mid 50's day. I need to bring pineapple in, other than that, I try to plant things that are from hardy or good to 10⁰. Then their on their own. I have started to try plants in run. So far so good, I have em protected with chicken wire (it is good for something after all).
I put rosemary, lavender, mint, Indian hawthorne and red yucca so far. Built a grow box and put lettuce and spinach.....we'll see. Have a vitex I need to plant 🤔 not sure where-in yard or in run. Need to clean run out, it's mulched down real well-but don't have a spot to put/use mulch. I might rake it out in a pile, and find someone who wants it now or soon.

I really NEED to get some last minute / close up for the year garden stuff done but I am SOOoo behind on coffee shipments, that will take most of my day. sigh. Been spending way too much time at the doctors lately. Whatever is going wrong, just FKN show your self gdammit, so we can work on it, this waking up and two minutes later the room is swimming and I got a pounding migraine is getting old. Hate to say it but I think it's related to the shot I got in the neck last week. THe arms and legs are MUCH better so that part of it worked but now my neck and head, the muscles if I didn't know better its like frickin tetanus set in, the muscles are just wanting to cramp and lock up. That at the base of your neck will cause an immediate migraine as it does something to your vision which sets the entire mess off. Once im there I can't do anything, any motivation is gone, if I can even move, get queazy just suddenly so very tired but can't sleep, the muscles are weak. I just want it to stop. Ever have a REAL bad hangover and you have that 3rd person feeling going on, it's sort of like that, but without the sour stomach and rotten breath. Paco wanting to be playful, and me...not so much... is not helping either, it's not fair to him or the girls to say NO go away., not that they care, but HE does after a while.

ok enough of me being a little bitch so early in the morning, time goto drag some totes around and hopefully get them ready to throw garlic in. I might end up planting my walking egyptian onion in there too... not sure what to think on that one, its healthy it's growing, but I don't see much 'walking' or even flowering, hope it lasts the winter.

When my muscles tighten/Charley horse, I take potassium or eat banana. It helps.

Ive tried that, it won't help. WHen my legs cramp up, I have actually had it so bad it tore muscle and caused bruising they cramped up so tight. I got about a 10 second window to 'catch it' when it fires off. If I can get on my feet and work some pressure on it and get some 'activation' in that muscle, ie rock back and forth varying the use of them for balance, or rubbing and kicking my leg out, I can generally work it out to where the 'urge' to want to cramp stops, but if I don't catch it in time or it just does not want to behave, then whammo, it locks, and I lay there for 10 minutes massaging the rock on the back of my leg trying to get my toes to uncurl and my leg to straighten out again.

Of course normally this wants to hit at around 2 am, it waits until you are in a deep sleep, the best sleep you attained the entire night, you might even have a pleasant dream going on for a nice change when it interrupts. But, on those rare RARE nights when you don't get woken up by leg cramps, or lightning bolts down the back, at about 2 am, the smoke detector will 'remind' you that you have not changed out it's battery in a while :)

A great nights sleep, is a thing you will NEVER experience EVER again in your life.
Go ahead smart ass, drink some booze, NOT gonna help D Take those pills, nope, were gonna wake you up anyways.. work your ass off so you are bone tired and do a combo of both...umm no no... we have the bird on our side too, we will use HIM to wake you up in the middle of the night, screaming at the top if his lungs... because a bug got in the house and is walking across the floor. If none of that works, we will send the bug HIMSELF to crawl across you at 2 am and that WILL wake you up, guaranteed.... No sir, no siree you are NOT allowed to get a good nights sleep EVER again !!

THe arms and legs are MUCH better
Well that's good at least. I know you have lower back problems too, have you ever thought about them causing muscle spasms? I have spondylolisthesis & it is known to cause them (they do suck).

Another chilly day here & supposed to be colder this weekend. I'm hoping I have my nest sleeper/molter broken because I'm sick of covering & uncovering nests every day. I was wrong, my lettuce survived the cold the other night, it bounced back. Sure do wish it would grow, I cannot get lettuce around here right now. 🙄 Or heavy cream. & don't even get me started on eggs - store brand are over $6 a dozen. :barnie I'm tempted to fire up the aero garden & grown some lettuce indoors. 3 months of electricity to grow a small salad worth. :gig

I had more beef bones than I could stuff in the freezer from the last cow (I mistakenly got another farms bones too) so I gave some to the neighbors dog & actually threw out some. I felt awful, but they didn't fit & I had already made a years worth of broth. None of my friends make their own broth. :idunno

Thats essentially the problem, I have a spinal compression injury overall, and the two key points of problems are lower back and in the neck, the neck causes problems everywhere, lower back, obviously just the legs. They will only treat one area at a time, if i get a shot in the neck it'll be a month before i can get a lower shot if I need one. This time the neck one just really I guess bruised the muscles in my neck because they are really sore and painful. I am sure this causes them to be puffy and inflamed, which squeezes nerves, which ignites a whole bunch of nerve issues. Another issue with nerve damage is, pain meds don't really work on nerve damage. it's a whole different world and I don't want to load up on Gabapentin or meds of that sort either. So when it gets bad, just. tolerate it as best as I can and hope that in a week or two it works itself back down to a dull murmur.

This means, some days when I have a LOT of stuff I really have to do, im reduced to laying in bed so I don't get vertigo type sick, and just pissy because im pretty worthless as a person on days like that, and KNOW that my work list is just getting longer and there is nothing I can do in my condition to shorten that list. I keep telling myself, it's NOT your fault Aaron you are NOT being lazy but well, anyone who's been in this type situation knows that --- that does not help your disposition really, and you just lay there depressed feeling like crap... because you feel like crap. In a way, having pets like chickens, or an insistent cockatoo, who love you regardless and demand your attention, no matter how you feel while you throw your pity party... while they are doing it for their OWN little selfish needs :D it does help break the cycle YOU got going on and is I guess you could call it theraputic. But, any day that I spend on the UPPER side of the compost heap is a good day right?

Life goes on and when we are lucky, so do we, birds and all.

Still working on the broth . I had 4 pots worth . Smelled so good . Fat removed from 2 pots and need to take care of 2 pots today . I estimate 10-12 quarts of broth . DW had a afternoon appointment . She has gout in one foot . Meds ordered . I had a little trouble with the grinder not cutting well . Sharpened cutter on diamond sharpening block . Just rub it back and forth on a flat surface - sandpaper works also . I ground all the tallow , silver skin and bits of meat for the dog . Picked the meat off the cooked bones . Good as pulled with BBQ sauce . I may or may can broth today .

I have to be honest I can not recall ever having bone soup? How exactly is this done and used? Does it have a real beefy flavor? gamey? organish flavor? or is it used really as a starter for when you make a beef stew where you add a bunch of veggies and such?

This is kind of like something Ill do when cooking other foods. One thing I like is, Ill cook up mushrooms, peppers, onion, garlic, bunch of veggies etc and pan fry them with a bunch of spices as an add on side dish when I do steaks. I'll save the liquid I pour off, which basically came straight out of the veggies so you KNOW it's good. THen next time I make a soup or stew and need to add water, instead of just out of the tap, I'll u se this water for extra flavor and nutrients.
