What did you do in the garden today?

It was raining last night, so I checked the solution level of my Kratky 5 gallon tomato buckets. They were filled near the top, so I came up with a solution to this problem. I took out some solution and put in a TBS of Maxi Grow to bring the EC in my buckets back up to the recommended level. I put an empty upside down bucket on top of my tomato starts and covered it with an upside down tomato cage. The cage holds the upside down bucket in place. This way I don't have to worry about the rain water filling the buckets and diluting the fertilizer solution. I will do this every day in the evening, until the plants get bigger.

I know these tomato plant will drink a lot of water when they get bigger and I will be refilling them often, so the rain at that time is not a big issue. I will drill a hole at the refill level, so it doesn't over fill.

I have been foliage feeding my tomato starts in the morning and notice a big difference in their color and growth.

Well, I just got blocked from the bird site-the other bird site with the blue logo. I posted a video of a Great Northern Harrier flying over the ranch (great american bird count is this weekend) With no title other than Great Northern Harrier. Block from Twitter.
Um....says I violated a rule. Um no. I CAN, it says, delete the tweet, but in place of the tweet (the video of a bird (no sound - except the dishwasher) at 300 feet up in the air) would be a message seen by all that the tweet has been deleted due to violating Twitter's rules. UM NO. I did NOTHING wrong, violated NO rules. Deleting the tweet is a public admission to doing something wrong. NOT.
So while they review my tweet for public suitability, I have curled my hair, paid my bills, done two loads of laundry, disassembled a shower head and replaced with new, written two Christmas Cards and posted them, worked on next years card (watercolor), bagged some tiny bits of screws for the workshop, nibbled a chocolate donut out of frustration, and am now sitting here with you good people. LOL

Coats go on the alpacas tomorrow for the week. Brrrr is coming.

Hey all. Not much happening around here I suppose. I did walk down to the coop today tho! Rain melted all the snow. I tell ya, those stupid birds have no clue how close they were to being culled. DH has been working 12 hr days & we have a new nest sleeper but nothing either of us could do. I told DH to cull them all, why feed them all winter with no eggs & poop in the nest boxes & I can't even carry water or food to them? But since the snow is gone I can now block the boxes every day & he can uncover at night. They're all lucky he's a softie & I'm in no shape to be catching birds to cull. They have a week to straighten up, the dummies.

I thawed and made fritters from a couple bags of the zucchini I froze this summer and they worked great! This was the first time I've tried freezing zucchini so I was so happy they didn't turn to mush. I did have to drain them once they had thawed but still made great fritters. I let the girls out from an hour or so today while I worked on one of the raised beds. They were so happy I have to do that more. We lost one of our outside cats, Trouble. He had a tumor under his tongue poor boy. DP is thinking of switching from rabbits to Cornish Cross chickens for freezing meat. We still have a lot in the freezer, I feel pretty secure for now so no hurry.
Sorry about the cat NB, poor guy.

Hello gardeners. I’m sick, face is pouring like a faucet and a cough with sore throat. Tummy is a wobbler too, so I’m going to urgent care at 0500 tomorrow. If I didn’t have an appointment I’d have to wait in my car until they had time for me, no thanks. The teenager picked lemons today and a neighbor is coming to get some. Igor will take a bunch to work which will help get rid of them. He picked about 500 lemons off that tree I kid you not.

I hope you feel better quickly!

Nothing much with the garden. Spouse turned over the compost and a few mice ran out. One ran into the chicken run….and was immediately snatched up as a play toy by one of our older hens and a chase among chickens ensued.

Two Seed orders arrived. Waiting on two others. Need to order from one, possibly two more sources. This coming year I’ll try to plant more edible flowers. I did “plant” various poppy seeds…really just scatter them, then tamp into the ground. I bought 4 kinds, and scattered these in about 6 locations…now to remember this and not pull them as “weeds”.

Might get a big storm on Wed eve/Thursday. Too far out yet to really know the track or intensity. Possible to get a lot of snow and Hugh winds, or maybe not…
