What did you do in the garden today?

I am hoping that my Princess Yum Yum tomato plant has resistance to the weird stunting virus in my yard. This will open up a whole new world for me as I can graft heirloom tomatoes onto this cherry tomato like this guy did in his video.

There is currently a FLOCK of baldies above my house. 47 of them! I've never seen so many flying together at once, and they are making the cutest trilling noises at each other!

Here's a pic of the new raised bed. Excuse the tools laying around.

Its wood frame and corrugated steel walls like the other 4 large beds. This one is a little smaller at just 30" wide instead of 48", but we will only be able to access it from the right side so I wanted to ensure we could reach across it.

I'm debating between a fountain or bird bath between the bed and the shed (shed is out of the picture to the right side). I'll finish leveling the ground and put gravel down I think first. There's a roughly 8'x12' space there though, so enough room to put something up to 3ft wide that we can walk around.

I just realized we have the same greenhouse!!

How long have you had yours? I got mine last year. This will be the second seed starting season I love it.

I live up in the north and have always wanted to see the Aurora Borialis but have yet to.

I just put mine up about a month ago now. I'm not impressed by the door nor the cheap plastic parts to endcap the roof peaks and gutters. It seems to do its job though. The challenge is keeping the daytime warmth in there this time of year. Right now all the starts are in the garage in my makeshift grow tent. I hope to be able to move starts out to the greenhouse after up-potting though.

I just learned the dipping with the strainer technique for removing excess liquid it was a god-send. I tried to explain it to my mom, over the phone... I need to send her a video.

I do a similar method. Set the strainer over a pot and pour the juice through. I catch the clear liquid to can for drinking later.

Nope the door is terrible and the peak caps are terrible and fall out all the time. I finally put mine in and then sealed them on with aluminum ducting tape. There is no keeping the day's warmth in there. At night, the temp crashes to meet the outside temperature. At best you can stave off a little frost if you are CLOSE to freezing or just below outside.
I've tried double layers and insulating bubble on the inside, dark heatsinks, and a little heater, nope.
I start in the seed shed in mid march, and move things to the greenhouse in April, and still have times I'll move those trays into the barn to keep warm at night.

Yes endcap pieces and gutter are not very sturdy. I used clear silicon on all the panels to hold it together and seal out the cold. Helps tremendously!!

I was also upset with it not holding heat. I use a 5,000 kw heater in my greenhouse and it works great. I simply set the dial to keep it at or above (50 degrees). I usually move plants out there a month or two before spring planting. Here is a picture of mine from last spring (the tub is full of water as a solar heat sink.)

I putzed around in raised garden . Discovered my soil is frozen still chunks of ice sitting in some of it. But no complaints as we had such dry parched ground last year.
So I spent my day looking longingly at the ground imagining what it will look like. Mental planning it out and wondering if I can get in there in 2 weeks? My cute little blackberry plants had green leaves coming out .

I built a small raised bed about 18” or so tall. I’m thinking I’ll try growing potatoes in it this year.
I also bout 6 blueberry plants and 6 raspberry plants. Trying to decide when it’s safe to plant them out. Zone 6 but real close to zone 5.
Going to see about getting a trailer load of ( hopefully ) well composted compost tomorrow (Wednesday).
Headed to Phoenix on Saturday to visit my brother for a few days. Will start some seeds and put eggs in the incubator when I get back.
