What did you do in the garden today?

If you are planting tomatoes, don't forget to plant basil and Italian oregano. I stole 2 leaves from 5 baby Genovese basil plants and tried them with my sliced tomato, and olive oil breakfast salad. I concluded that it could not beat the stand alone flavor of the oregano leaves, but they pair well together.

Next time, I will line my plate with lettuce and spread my tomato, chopped basil, oregano and shredded mozzarella cheese on top before drenching it with olive oil.

I sprinkle salt on my sliced tomatoes right before I eat them, so they don't get watered down and lose its texture.

You are making me hungry... 😂

Good evening, I need some advice on cloning. I want to clone my best rootstock. But I keep failing!
When I put my suckers in water, a lot of them don't make it. I think the harder or older suckers has better chance of survival.

This lady has 100% success rate with cloning using rooting hormone and rock wool cubes. Key take away is cover for 3 days, keep water on bottom, take cover off after 3 days.

We may have gotten about 4" of snow overnight, but it's gardening weather inside!

I hope this is the year I get ripe peppers.

What kind of peppers?

We usually grow Italian type or pimentos, or Anaheim. We get ripe/ full red ones late July to August. Always full sun all day long. They perform best when they get early morning full sun through mid day (as opposed to not getting early morning sun). They are more shallow rooted than tomatoes, so we keep an eye on the soil moisture. One year voles were active in their bed and the peppers were quite unhappy with all the air around their roots from the burrows, definitely less production.

OH! And yesterday, I ordered fruit trees: 2 peach trees and 2 sweet cherry trees. I am really excited about them! I had been waiting for at least one of the varieties to go on sale and I had a 10% off code, and I do love to get a good deal!
Where did you buy fruit trees from? I’ve only bought from 2 suppliers: Stark Brothers (MO), and Grandpas Orchard (MI).

Found the starter things I needed for seeds scheduled for starting this week!

We might buy 3 more fruit trees…. I think that will round out/fill in all available spots for fruit trees. We are looking at getting 2 nectarines and an additional apricot.

Q on grapes: spouse thinks they would not do well bc in his experience, all the ones his dad grew were impacted badly from any herbicide use by neighbors. We have farm field in front and behind, with alternating crops, so one always has soybeans, one always has corn …. So we always get round up type Chem sprayed one one of the field (corn), early in the season, and then later in the season the airplane sprayer also sprays the corn (I think with fungicide). So, spouse thinks we can’t grow grapes if they are that sensitive. Thoughts from anyone that grows grapes….
