What did you do in the garden today?

I bought a tote to try for my tomato starts when up potted. Saw that idea.

I have had great results using the Hefty Hi-Rise 72qt bins as a "mini greenhouse". If you did not wtach the YouTube video link, all you need to do is drill a small hole on one side about 2 inches off the bottom of the bin and another hole about 2 inch from the top of the rim of the bin on the other side. That will allow fresh air to come in from below on one side and the hot air to escape from the upper hole over on the other side.

Do not drill holes into the top of the bin, because if it rains outside, you will flood the lid holding your plants.

Of course, you can also just take the bin "greenhouse" part off and set the plants outside sitting on the lid itself. I do that if it's warm enough outside.

After several months of deliberation and consideration, no garden for me. What little I was able to harvest the last two years I figured what I got was about 13 to 15 dollars a pound. I can buy it at the grocery store a lot cheaper with a lot less work, plus we have a couple of farmers markets close, and I can go there also.

My health has a lot to do with the decision this year, 5 strokes in the past and now dealing with stage 4 cancer I just mainly don't feel like it.

We knew that two fruit trees would arrive today, but spouse had to go to work late, so was digging holes for the two trees so they would be ready for me to plant the trees, and before he was done, I saw the FedEx truck drive away, meaning they arrived! We got those two planted today. One more arrives this week, and that will be that - all possible fruit tree spaces will be taken up (so, we can only replace trees).

Arctic Jay Nectarine - white flesh

the last one we are waiting on is a yellow flesh nectarine. These were bought from Stark Bros. The nectarine is an XL bareroot - it is a nice sized tree - the trunk was pretty good size for a bareroot tree. Unfortunately, the very top 4-5" of the tallest/top branch was broken, so we will hope for another branch to develop, which it should.

We knew that two fruit trees would arrive today...

Often times, especially at the tail end of a long winter, I think how nice it would be to live somewhere warmer. We are in the middle of a 3 day blizzard where I live. Forecast was for as much as 18 inches of snow. Fortunately, it looks like the storm center is pushing north of us and we are now expected to only get 6-9 inches of new snow.

I tried planting some fruit trees about 20 years ago. What the deer did not eat, the other fruit trees died in a harsh winter. I kind of gave up after that - as far as fruit trees.

I'm not complaining. I have lived on a tropical island (Guam), in southern states (CA, GA), and countries in very hot climates (southern Italy). I do prefer living in northern Minnesota where we can enjoy all 4 seasons of the year - Winter, June, July and August!

Love that you can grow fruit trees. Sounds like you have a nice setup. Just a little envious as I sit out our end of winter blizzard...

That came out way bigger than intended... Oh, well.

Thank you and I appreciate the love. I fixed up the chicken pen last April and fixed everything where it's a snap to take care of. I have 7 hens and 1 bantam rooster so the
14X60 run is plenty of room, it also has a downhill slope so I don't worry about it getting muddy with the ground being sandy. On the garden I just take into consideration now what I can and cannot do and don't worry about it. So not having a garden this year is no big deal.

You can still have a nice flower garden! They soothe the heart. It’s possible to find some wild flowers native to your area and throw seeds all around. You will have a nice flowering garden without doing much.
