What did you do in the garden today?

I haven't had them in my Cukes yet. You must have a very heavy load.

Are you trimming the spent lower leaves?

Squash bugs are definitely intense here in southeast Georgia. Especially when the heat exceeds 95-100F and the plants get stressed. That's pretty much the case for most of our pests. They really take hold once the plants are stressed from the heat.

Sometimes I do trim the spent leaves. I usually tidy up plants on the trellises first. We gave away our cattle panel trellises though (I regret it) so I only have cucumbers trellised until we replace those again and a if I don't see the dead leaf I probably won't cut it. Out of sight, out of mind, lol.

I just up potted tomatoes until I ran out of soil. I had 10 bags, but I had to add to two raised beds also, so that ate up most of the soil. 1 1/2 bags were used to up pot 27 tomatoes and there's another 17 that need I will need to get done when I get another bag of soil.

I was trying to avoid up potting them with hopes I could plant them outside this weekend, but it's going to be another week or two still due to the weather dipping into the 30s still. I was having to water heavily every day to prevent the tomatoes from wilting in their 3.5" pots. Now they are in 6" pots so I think the added soil will hold more moisture. Seeing the root growth I will not be surprised if these plants fill the 6" pots with roots within the next two weeks.

Hoping the peppers continue to be fine in 3.5" pots. They are looking really good. I really don't feel like up potting all of them too before transplanting. We will see...
This is where I am. I think I might have to up-pot my tomatoes, again. I really don't want to. They're already taking up so much space

I have been getting into the low 30s art night and have a bunch of tomatoes and peppers in the greenhouse as well as a tray of herbs. I put a space heater or there that automatically kicks on to keep it warmer at night. I set it to 55 I think. The digital thermometer still reads the lowest temp to get info the 30s, but is clear that the plants are not getting frost damage as long as I have the heater out there. It doesn't run nonstop either I think the thermometer is just reading the lowest temp from a breeze through the lower vents I have or something.
I'll talk to DH about this and see what he says. Thank you!

Thank you, learning how to deal with vertigo until it hopefully goes away. Blah, but it ain’t gonna get me down.
Oh my God you too? I haven’t been here much because it make me want to barf scrolling through posts. 😂 Mine is getting a little better, I hope you find relief soon!
Rhubarb recipes??? Please share them with me. I would really like to take advantage of our 4 plants that are ready for me to start harvesting. Can I freeze it? Jam recipes or other methods for canning it? What about candied rhubarb - that sounds good! I could go out and get 30 stalks right now I'm sure! And probably another 30 in a few weeks then. Tell me what am I to do with it other than crunching on a stalk while sitting by the firepit - I love sour! Wish it was even more sour actually.
I love rhubarb. I make strawberry rhubarb jam every year. it does freeze well so you don’t have to use it all at once. I lost a great recipe I had for a rhubarb coffee cake made with sour cream. It was so good & I have searched for 3 years trying to find it. ☹️
Lucky! It doesn't seem to stop ours. They even like our cucumbers. It is easier to find them in the trellis though!
I usually have much better luck with vining squash over bush squash though. I just enjoy the zucchini until the squash bugs win, lol.
Same here. Last year I covered them with bug netting & it helped a lot but eventually the powdery mildew got everything. The bug netting was a pain, having to hand pollinate every day. Stupid bugs suck all the joy out of growing squash & cukes.

April showers are here for sure. Showers pretty much every day for the next week.

I really enjoy my Ball canning book too. Full of good, trusted info.

They look amazing!
Thanks!
If it is your inner ear, and you suffer from seasonal allergies, a daily Claritin might help. I've heard that chiropractors can help with vertigo
Oh my allergies aren’t seasonal, unless pretty much all year is a season lol. I take Zyrtec every day, use Nasonex almost every day and have a Navage that I use a few times a week or daily depending on the situation. This just snuck up out of nowhere!

I get squash seedlings everywhere after spreading our compost in the garden. It amazes me how much they can handle. I've had a pile really cooking before even that I focused on turning frequently that was actually very hot to the touch and "sure enough!" squash seedlings came up even from that compost when it was spread. It is astounding!
Ha! Same! I've been weeding squash seedlings (or some unknown cucurbit) from everywhere I spread compost...

Then you totally know what I'm talking about! Lol, It feels like gravity is stronger when you have vertigo. 😆
Yep, and no matter how much you hold on to the countertop, the world keeps on moving and the solid counter itself turns to jelly. NO MATTER how much you keep telling your brain it's not. Crazy. Like the whole world becomes a squishy trampoline.

Alrighty, so I have had an entire 72 cell tray of san Marz tomatoes sprout, stunt, go pale and stay stunted. I FINALLY figured out why.
This was a pack of cells that I had from last year that I loaded with coir starter and never planted, so it was sitting ready to fill with seeds. Confused at why this ONE tray was acting weird I looked back in last years notes and ah-ha. The coir was tainted, not rinsed properly and even leaving crystals on top of the starter. I had put this unused tray aside for the company should they want to test the soil levels, and they never asked for it, and I forgot and put it with the others.
I transplanted all the starts into quality starter and have given them a week. No good. They're too far gone.
Yesterday I plated the rest of my seeds and will go again. They should be up by monday and will be fine yet for this season, I'll stagger plant with some others I have, but for Crap sake.....
=========
My seasonal allergies have been worse this year than ever before, can't take meds, and am on shots, so local exposure plus shot overload is insane. OC I'm not just seasonal add in cats, dogs, horses, goats, chicken dander, dust, mouse, blah blah blah......Once my inner ear goes into play, sigh, then it works on my brain and panic...I stop going places and doing things. I have found I'm better in the afternoon, once I've gone vertical for a while, but too much up and down, bend and tilt can trigger it again. OH AND I got a new glasses prescription this week too....May as well pile it on, eh??
---------
got down to 37 last night, things can just stay protected for a couple days. I'll open the bay doors on the shop and they can get light that way.
------
Today I was large pebbles to paint an label for the butterfly garden.
And add some topsoil I got on clearance (open bag) to the tomato rows to boost them. On the other hand, I'll toss that unknown soil into the chicken dirt bath holes to fill them in a bit, and get garden ready soil for the garden. Better safe....
