What did you do in the garden today?

Morning. Behind here again & I don't know why, not like I do much all day, every day. :gig

My bestie came over yesterday & transplanted 2 volunteer Sungolds to the big pots on the deck that I can reach - super happy I'll at least have some tomatoes this summer! Surprised I only have 2 volunteers this year, maybe a couple more will pop up.

I watered everything, the beans have sprouted. :yesss: I planted 3 kinds of poles. I ordered some sweet success cuke seeds last year, I may plant those on a trellis & just see if I get anything before the bugs kill them. I think @Acre4Me recommended them as they are pretty disease resistant.

And of course I have a broody. First almost 90 degree day & she does it, same thing every time. Heat triggers her. DH is going to have to set up the breaker cage when he gets home from work.

My 3 pullets come tomorrow, got everything set up for them where I can manage feed & water.
It's good to know you will not be totally out of the gardening fun this season. Necessity really is the mother of invention. Do you have room on your deck for a few pots of kitchen herbs? Btw: I don't think my fig tree made it through that -15F freeze. It's been in the driveway for a couple of weeks now and no signs of life. Wah!

I built the doors (mostly) for the chicken run.
I planted climbing beans that will double as shade for my honeyberries.

Didn't get time to mow before having to call it quits.
That means it could be a very tall, 4-acre crop of grass that will be waiting for me to find a dry spell when I am home over the next few days.

My rototiller was delivered back to me this morning. I was not happy to be charged again. So I mentioned that and they asked if I would just pay for parts, so I did.

The first time, they didn't find what was wrong with it and just thought a cable needed tightening. For that, they charged 75 bucks. This time they cleaned the carb and put on a belt. I hope it works! 🙏

Refilled the fountain.
DW helped me string up some netting to support the peas. We will need to add another layer or two of netting as the peas continue to grow.
Raining here, but it doesn't seem like much. 70s and cloudy all day though so the garden gets a break from baking in the sun.
SPECIAL BUY: Menards has green steel garden stakes for $0.50 for 4ft and $0.99 for 6ft. There are other sizes too, but three are the most common I think and best deals. I ordered 20 6ft stakes and used 5 of them already to support the pea trellis netting. These are great to have on hand. T-posts are certainly better quality, but several times the cost.

I forgot something while I was doing errands in town yesterday, so today I went back to get it. And found something I've been looking for:

A 7-quart (jar) pressure canner with WEIGHTS, not a dial. I have an old one with a dial, and I'm sure it needs to be calibrated. But weights don't need calibration, and that's what I've wanted, just to be sure the pressure is right. I can deal with the rattle-rattle-rattle noise.

Yeah, $150, but I finally have what I want. Now I will be canning my bone broth from here on out, instead of freezing it. I don't trust my old canner.

Then I stopped at the grocery store and scored some more of DH's favorite cheese on sale, and got some brats for lunch.

And forgot to get buns. Sigh.
