What did you do in the garden today?

When I got home yesterday there was a huge 5-6 foot long black rat snake in the drive. Not a fan but I left it alone. Things other than gardening today. Need to buy paint for the Martin house while I am out. I have planting in mineral tubs. Putting bark from the firewood in the bottom. Kind of like putting logs in a raised bed,

Good morning gardeners. Took a few snaps while I watered this morning. Have a great day!

I feel like I have known some of you for a very long time and I want to let you know about some tragic news in my life. An administrator can take to us down if they need to.
On Mother’s Day my 35 year old son tried to kill himself by dousing himself with gasoline and setting it on fire.
He has 3rd degree burns over 65 to 73% of his body. We don’t know if he will make it or not. If he does he will be in the burn unit if the hospital for at least 3 months and then have extensive rehabilitation after that.
My only gardening was trying to remember to water the r basil and cilantro I’m growing from seed. And I need to put some butterfly weed roots that the one company resent me.
Any prayers are welcomed Thank you.
Oh my goodness Karen, I’m so sorry! My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family :hugs

So there is a FREEZE watch tonight - not even a frost - a freeze. :he I will water & drag out the sheets & buckets & cover the beans, fig & volunteer tomatoes. The soil is pretty warm, we've had 80s lately so hopefully this freak weather won't be a big deal.

Yeah. We get into upper 30s tonight. Last cold night though. It jumps to upper 40s as the lowest lows in the 10 day forecast after tonight. Finally, can think about planting the plants outside. Hope yours do well through tonight.

Good morning gardeners. Yes @Sueby definitely a freeze warning. I'm ready for it. I stopped planting when I saw it pop up on my weather app a week ago. The plants that have been hardening off on my patio will come inside and the tomato plants will get covered. Not much else to do. I've been plugging away at my to-do list. Yesterday I weed whacked the main garden area then took care of most of the weeds in the front yard. had to stop because I was careless and caught my electric cord with the weed whacker string. It chewed through that heavy duty cord pretty quick. I ordered another extension cord due to arrive today. I am finishing the laundry I started yesterday, then work on the high garden and install the chicken wire around the herb beds. Earlier this morning I put some fertilizer, worm castings and Epsom salts in the garden beds. I'm debating whether to water them or not later this morning. We did have some rain in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, but it looks like that's changed to a slight chance only on Saturday. It's really dry and windy still so watering needs to be done more frequently. I'm planning on moving the hoop frames from the leek and shallot bed over to the garlic and bok choy bed. I want to cover that bed with bug netting then plant the summer squash. I'm hoping the squash can provide shade for the bok choy and extend the season. My little butterfly bush I got from TSC is not looking good at all. I found one at HD. It's not at the local store so they are delivering it. I don't think I'll be buying plants from TSC or Walmart again. The Concord grapes I got from Walmart are doing ok so far, but that's about it. A couple of the blueberry shrubs are still showing signs of life, but I'm not impressed, more disappointed. Time to get back to work now. Have a great day everyone.

Wow a freeze?! Our lows are in the 60s here now. We're definitely creeping up on our intolerably hot months pretty soon. It usually happens some time between June-August and it gets so hot that it will kill many of the plants in the garden. We have a really long gardening season but those that don't live here, don't realize that we still have a lot of dead time, it's just mid summer, lol. I was just talking to hubby about putting the shade cloth up in the next few weeks.
