What did you do in the garden today?

What do you feed your garden with? I have to set up trellises for my cukes and climbing beans. I might try training a couple of my zucchiinis up a pole this summer to see if it's worth the trouble.
The squash tree method is very easy.. you just have to start early and do a lot of pruning early.. but it is worth it, no bugs, no mildew, no hidden monster squash.. I posted here a few years ago and shared my granny’s technique of making summer squash into a “tree” I’ll share pictures if you like.. and details how to achieve the result you are looking for..

I think I'd like! Please share a picture.

If there’s any interest I can type up detailed instructions.. strong wind is really the only enemy with this technique.. so strong staking and keeping the stalks tight as they grow upwards is very important.. any play in the plant will snap the stalk with a 15+ mph wind..

Good morning gardeners. The smoke is definitely here now. Woke up to very hazy skies. It was breathable thanks to a mist of rain. I finished planting the beans and squash in the 3 sisters patch. The corn is looking very healthy and growing well. I put the organic plant food spikes in everything up in the nightshade garden. I dragged the half bale of straw up there to mulch when I can. I really need to get string up for the lima beans up there. I picked more peas, raspberries and lettuce this morning. I put the fertilizer spikes in with the tomato plants in the big garden. My bush string beans are starting to bloom so I need to get some string up for them. I put the AC and the air filter on early this morning. It's making a big difference. Something is eating my cucumber seedlings. I'm sure it's either a squirrel or a chipmunk. I'm going to start the cucumbers in starter pots and wait until they have a few secondary leaves on them before planting them in that garden area again. I'm not sure how my dogs will react to the fireworks. They never had much of a reaction to thunderstorms until that recent one that woke us up at 3 am. Around here the fireworks start several days before the main event and last for several days after. Although fireworks are illegal in Massachusetts, they are easy to buy across the line in New Hampshire. This area is semi rural so cheap fireworks are entertaining to a lot of people who don't understand or care if they cause problems for their neighbors, pets or livestock.. I'm not a fan. Noise pollution and fire hazard.

My partner’s parents are coming so not a lot. Just looks at what was going on. I feel our garden is going really slow this year, which is what it is. Things are taking off though. It’s been a damp, cool spring/early summer.

Greenhouse next year?

Finding a ton of volunteer tomatoes, birds are pecking the snot out of our strawberries. Greens bed a failure and waiting a replant. July will still get us lots of greens and beets by late summer/fall.

Same here. I would never tell anyone to not light them off, though I secretly wish they wouldn't, lol. I can deal with the 9-midnight ones on NYE or whatever, but what really annoys me is 2 or 3 am on a random Wednesday for no reason. My old neighbor was that guy. Thankfully he moved.

I like your little rock paths! Are you in New England by chance?
